Can't start with new mobo. (A7N8X Deluxe)

Hello Everyone.

A friend of mine bought a Asus A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard and we cant make it start.
There is only one jumper for the FSB configuration and thats switching between 266/333 to 200
Can't find any other settings. We connected all Cables and devices and after about 6 - 8 seconds
the Computer turns off itself.

The defalut fsb-setting is 266/333 witch was there from the beginning.

What can the problem be ?

Hes Specs:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe (new)
Amd Athlon Xp 2400+ (new)
256 DDR-ram @ 333 (new)
nvidia Geforce 2 @32 (old)

Cant rememer all of the specs.. have to ask him for the rest..

try putting it together out of the case with just the basics connected and check that the board is not shorting on the backing plate

and most all of todays mobos come from the factory set up as jumper free. Leave them all alone. You might try clearing the CMOS (goodle search with your mobo or look in manual for how to). What happens exactly when you power on?? beeps?

Nope. No beep. Somethings wrong during the testing-sequence I guess.

Dumb question, but are those GF2's 1.5v or 3.3v? Just askin because some older cards won't work on the NF2(needs to be a 1.5v card)

The Fan's start to spin and it seems that the computer starts up. But it's just for a short time.
like , 5 - 8 seconds. But I can't hear any beep (Signal that everyting is in order ).

It looks like just when it's getting ready boot up , it shuts down.
Some kind of malfunction or something. (Can be that GF2 MX card)
We will test with another Graphic-card later today if the problem is focused there.

Also not sure if this affects the A7N8X, but some boards refuse to boot up if they don't get a reading from the cpu fan. I know it stupid but it has happened to me before. See if you have a fan that will let the board read the rpms and see if it helps. Just throwing out ideas for ya

try reseating CPU and try a different dimm slot and/or stick of ram if you have it in addition to trying different vid card.

It could be that. But im am unsure. Its a Volcano-Fan. And the rpm's can be "changed" with a little
Controller-button on a cable out of the fan. Turnable Dont know how that works really
with different speeds and such.

Thankyou everyone anyway. I will try all these methods tomorrow. But now im going to get some sleep.

its just that the cpu hsf needs to be plugged into the mobo not ran directly from power supply. Or if ran from PSU direct, you still need to plug cpu hsf into mobo so it can see that the CPU has cooling running. sort of a safety feature. but if you're plugged into mobo already, it should be OK. again, I would try different dimm slots and mem combinations (single stick etc).

thanks for your help guys.. but we have tested everything... and nothing works. I think that its some problem with the CPU, Because when we test an older (Athlon 800) It works fine and it boots up. So, it must be something with that new CPU ..

Isolate the problem by strip all the devices one by one til only ram + mb + video card are left.
