Need A New Motherboard
hey guys, so i decided to upgrade my motherboard and cpu. i just bought this cpu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...819116027#spec and i was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for a compatible motherboard. also, should i be investing more into 478 socket? or should i get a different cpu and motherboard? as you can see im not looking to spend too much on this. any suggestions will be appreciated -thanks civ

to be honest i cant find a whole lot of good quality for that socket anymore
most of them support DDR and not DDR2 memory maybe a little more info on what you already have and plan to drop into this board like memory and what not |

yea, s478 is dead if you're building a new machine. even if it's a cheap machine. you can get a 775 celeron, or even a pentium D processor for similar price as the one you just got. and since it would be a s775 board and CPU, you would have a bit more future hardware solution there.

aww man you actually bought that ancient thing?
that really isnt good at all anymore.... i mean i use that CPU and it isnt all that much to smile at, i mean at 80 dollars is not a good price. infact, at this point in time, i think its a complete rip off if you came here before we would have recommended a Pentium D with a cheap core 2 compatible board like the gigabyte 965 boards. i wouldve recommended: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116253 and a little pricy compared to the chip but whats a cpu without a good board? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128017

It would help if you gave your max poss budget but maybe this will help
The problem with upgrading the motherboard is the extra expense with new memory and gfx. This 965 from Gigabyte has onboard video which would get you going until you have the funds for a new card and costs $129.99. Together with the Pentium D Pressler @ $83.00 linked by Kris23 could be within your budget - Total $212.99. Add to that some G.Skill 2x1GB 6400 DDR2 RAM @ $95.99 is a grand total of $308.98 (plus shipping)

motherboards for that CPU are long gone, can it even run on your current board? the only way you can get a board is if you buy one from a member here....... or hunt ebay
CDsDontBurn has a nice board in his system but i doubt hed part with it yet, mine is a good board, but it cannot OC for anything

it's important to know these because there are some boards that support a PCI-e gfx card and some that support DDR2, and others that do both. |
