whats the big deal on reinstalling the OS?? didn't you just get that board a day or two ago? or are you just plugging in new boards when you get them and not installing OS fresh again? anyhow, you'll have to WORK in order to get those higher speeds it won't come easy, And if you're not in the place to go all the way do whatever it takes attitude, you may not break 200... My advice, take it or leave it, is to set to disable and set CD rom as primary boot device. insert winXP cd and reboot. go into BIOS again to make sure its disabled and then reinstall OS fresh with it disabled. Or really, 195 dual channel is fast and you can be content with that!!! still a smoking speed

Wanna know why I don't wanna reinstall right now? Cuz I just reinstalled last night. I ditched mr RAID 0 array, too much clutter in the case and very slow random access time (I don't know why, but it was 18ms) So with my circuit city credit I picked up a 80gb 8mb cache drive. I have 56k.... so some updates just take a while to download. I can't get into ABIT's forum, it's down. No big deal. Shuki. It's 1am over here. I am not messing with this tonight, maybe tomorrow afternoon.

I do understand completely about the DL time on dial up and really, makes no difference whatsoever what you do with YOUR pc. we can stop here and you'll still be OCed and running faster than most of the chaps out there! If you decide though to take it further (and remember NO guarantees we'll get any further!!) then I'll do what I can to help If you do decide to reinstall, just put on winXP, nforce drivers and vid card drivers. Forget about updates and such for now. In fact, you know how many times I hosed my OS and had to reinstall while pushing my rig?? SIX times just part of it.... Do you have a good drive image program?? saves me a LOT of time! With one, you can be back to clean OS install in about 15 minutes with all programs included. LMK if I can help get you one.... really does help!

Pissed ANOTHER DAY to no AVAIL....

So I disable APIC with this....
Quote:
I suggest you disable APIC in your BIOS, I have major instabilities with it enabled, random freezes, etc. But there is a process you have to follow if you want Windows to boot properly after you change it. First you must go into Device Manager, under Computer, select the Properties of ACPI Uniprocessor PC, and on the Driver Details tab, select Update Driver, then click Next ONCE. On the next dialog, where you can select the driver source, select "Display a list of the known... chose a specific driver" option, then click Next. On the next dialog, select the "Show all hardware of this device class" option. Make sure you have "(Standard Computers)" selected in the Manufacturers list, on the right you should see a number of options, select "Advanced Power and Configuration Interface (ACPI) PC" and click Next, then Finish after Windows loads the new drivers. You may need your CD. Then click Close to exit those property pages, Windows will tell you to Reboot. Do so, and when your PC reboots, go into the BIOS and disable APIC. Voila!!! If you don't change the kernel driver first, Windows won't boot.
NOTHING. I get into windows and the computer STILL runs as it did before. I gained absolutely nothing... Talk about aggrivating... I'd like to just buy one stick of ram and say "F*ck all this!" but I am hesitant to.

I did disable APIC and it did nothing for me. Didn't help at all. And no to MSN, I only use AIM... I'll see if I can get my old MSN account to work. I'll be back.

Yeah, I got it. Just didn't feel like doing anything... I messed with the board yestruday. I can do 210FSB stable. 215FSB+ gives me tearing on my 3dmark runs. (even with 10-5-5-3 memory timingsaand 2.9v). That means I need more NB voltage... right?

FYI, already at 1.7v on NB

yep thats exactly right. My v1.2 would only do 200 dual channel out of box and yours is already at 210!!! So tell me, what did you do to get from your less than 200 up to 210 stable???

It always ran 210 stable...... I always was trying tighter timings... I mean. I wanted tighter timings. There are people with the same mobo and ram as I and they can run 3-2-2-2. I know I can't necessarily run the same but I kinda expected better than 6-3-3-2.. Get what I mean? OCZ says I can run 3-2-2-2 at 200FSB. The board just won't do it. Who the hell knows why.

So hey, after my photography class today I'm gonna run out RadioSh*t to buy a voltage meter to do the VDD mod. Um, you did yours and how many volts are you pumping through the NB now? Also, do you just still have stock cooling on it? I see a bunch of people putting small CPU heatsinks on there but I don't think I'll do that unless I NEED to.

well I've got a 120mm side case fan blowing ambient air over nb, agp and sb so I'm sure that helps. But yeah, stock nb hsf with as3 in place of goop. I'm running 1.95 or 2.06 through her depending on where you measure from. Just used a pencil and kept checking. applying the tape to cover it knocks a tad off too so take that into consideration. get it set and tape it off and give her a go

So wait. It says to start the mod at 1.4v..... Hmmm... So if I start at 1.4 and change it .2v up running 1.4 will really give me 1.6? And running 1.7 will give me 1.9?

http://www.overclockers.com/tips1078/ I just read through this very carefully and followed his suggestions. My 1.4 reads 1.63 at spot 1 and 1.72 at spot 2.

Already read it the day I found the mod over a month ago. Just haven't had time to do it. I wanted to do it last night but my girlfriend wanted to sneak in and sleep over. I am gonna do the mod after work today. I'll post with results.

just be careful. A bud of mine just fried his nf7-s 2.0 pushing for a 3k5 mem bench Of course he had it cranked pretty good at 2.15v but also had good cooling with a cpu hsf on the nb. Still fried it though...

Just did the mod like 4 hours ago. I got to 225FSB with 2.03v stable with 6-2-2-2 timings. Shit, to think that the reason I couldn't run tight timings was cuz of the VDD mod. I can get 230 with 2.13 into windows but no matter what timings I use I get horrible agp texture issues. I know I am just air cooling, but the NB heatsink is barely warm to the touch...with AS3 on it.

Actually, mine measured almost identical on spot 1 and spot 2. The difference was like .02 volts.

well sharing your experience with others is the only way they can learn too. To keep it to yourself only helps yourself. So yeah, I do want you to post up your experience in OCing your nf7-s v2.0

ah thought sure you RMA'd the 1.2 for a 2.0... Either way, its just good to have the knowlege threads in there for other people to glean from ... It would just help the community out a bit but if you don't feel like it then don't. Really does not matter to me to see your pics or not. IMO, you should have started another thread over there anyhow when you went from temp problems on to OCing....
