So here we go... Yesturday the temps in my city were 80F. My CPU was at 52C full stress. Ambient was 25C. Night time came and our temps in the city dropped to 40F (damn Chicago weather) and my CPU dropped to 42C (with my window barely cracked)... Now this morning my window has been closed for quite some time (1-2 hours) and my temps are hovering around 46C. The problem is that this is with an ambient temp of 24C in the room? WTF. My CPU temps should be this low.. They just miraculously dropped 4C of what they were two weeks ago under the same conditions. Is there something freaked up the the NF7-S temp sensor where it likes to start reading accurately? I mean, this temperature is what it really should be.. Anyone get my drift?

can you post up these things:
1. idle cpu temp
2. idle mobo temp
3. load cpu temp
4. load mobo temp
5. ambient temp


maybe take these readings at 80F and at 40F.

and my v1.2 has been the same since I bought it... 43c idle and 48c full load. has not fluctuated. Even when it was 93F outside I still sat at 44 and 49. Taking into consideration my +7c reading I'm tickled pink But really, you should not be getting any 10c variations liek that..... help us out with the requested readings when you get a chance..

Eh, well, the thing is the ambient temps (from the temp sensor to the right of the CPU) read 24-25C.... Today the temp in my house is more like 66-68F yesturday it was like 77-82F. Could that be the culprit? Just the fact that it was 40F hotter yesturday? It's just odd cuz my ambient temps have not changed. It's almost like I don't have that 7C skew anymore... Ya know?

but if your room temp stays basically the same, your pc temps *should* stay basically the same too!!! I mean who cares what the outside temp is if your ambient PC room temp is the same!! but first thing, stick up those temps m8..

House temps
Thermostat in the house is set to 68F (20C)
but my room is more like 70F so it's 21.111C


Outside temp is 42F (5.555C) and it's not like i can take temps at 80F cuz the weather isn't 80F

OK its a good start. Ambient temp is your room temp not any temp sensor inside pc.

so we have:
1. 40
2. 21
3. 44
4. 22
5. 21

Now you have some REALLY good airflow if your mobo temp is the same as ambient temp!! (which is just another name for temp of room). Right now my ambient (room) temp is 22, my mobo temp is 23 and my cpu is 43 - the 7c nf7 thing = 36. Thats 13c above my mobo temp and still a bit high. Generally we want cpu to be 8~10 above mobo temp (which it was on kx7 just not on this crazy nf7.. ). Anyhow, your gap between mobo temp and cpu temp is better than mine by 1c! I have a 20c difference (which is NUTS ) and yours is 19c diff (though we take into account the 7c high reading at least and gives us a much better gap).

now to answer your question about the temps... only a couple things I can think of:
1. you have a variable fan on the hs that was down. or maybe an automatic fan that was running slow all night and the cpu just idled high.
2. I had thought maybe it was your airflow but obviously thats good! though next time you see 52c cpu, take note of the mobo temp as well
3. when it was 52c, ambient temp was 25c. and now at 21c you say cpu is 44c. so all things being equal, at 25c ambient you should have been at 48c not 52. Again, if you see 52 again, take note of the mobo temp (sensor right next to cpu). I still think it may be an airflow problem but we won't know until it hits 25c ambient again

Euro, you using motherboard monitor 5 to get the temps?? Go with that! Sensor 1 and sensor 2. 2 is cpu and 1 is mobo if I remember correctly. And NO WAY your mobo temps can be 21c idle and now a few hours later 43c!!! set up mbm 5 and lets see what we get

I have a NF7-S v1.2 and my CPU temps are about 38'C with the case open and about 42'C with it closed (i need case fans!) SO does the above statement mean that the NF7-S reads temps 7'C too high? If so my cpus at 31'C??

SOme clarification on this would be parreciated and is there anyway to make the NF7-S read correctly??

I use both winbond and mbm5, and the BIOS to check temps, all seem pretty much the same as each other.


P.S. Winbond now causes my CPU fan to stop, i dont' use ti anymore.

not to get too far highjacked here but.... yeah, the nf7-s boards (and possible the nf7 non s as well...?) are at least 7c too high. I went same setup only changing mobo and got a 7c rise in temps.

what BIOS you using? I know this 7c is with the 16 BIOS not sure about previous BIOS'.

to correct the problem in mbm 5 just open up temperatures, select sensor that you have going with cpu sensor and scroll down under alarm side until you get to compensation for this sensor. set it -7 for a more accurate reading....

Just curious but what evidence do you have that this is a genuine error? Other than going from one motherbaord ot the other, have Abit admitted it? Only reason i ask is that i noticed the same sort of increase going from my KX7-333 to the NF7-S but what i also noticed is that in the NF7-S the sensor under the CPU touches the bottom of the CPU but in the KX7-333 its bent horizontal and doesn't quite touch the underneath of the CPU. Therefore the KX7-333 is only reading the surroundign air under the CPU and the NF7-S is reading the actual CPU bottom.
I hope it is a genuine error as i do find the CPU temp to be a little too high in comparison to system temp or ambient temp.

just head over to abit forums or amdforums (abit mobo section) and read up on it. you'll see that everyone that has upgraded to this board had a marked temp increase. whether all previous mobos just measured wrong or not, I'm sticking with everyone else on this one and saying nf7 is high.... others contend that all previous mobos measured low. really just whatever you prefer m8...

Cool. I have heard the NF7-S may be getting its temps from the on-die Diode. If this is the case then i would imagine the NF7-S recordings are more acurate than previous boards that use an on-board sensor. It would also explain why it shows temps higher than normal.
Who knows, I might add the -7 compensation just to make me feel better

Shuki, my mobo temp never goes above 25C.... I don't know where you got 43C from. My CPU ranges from 45C - 52C (that one day). My mobo goes from 22C - 25C.

anyhow, I'd use motherboard monitor 5 to get your temp info. and I'd record not only cpu temp at 52c but also mobo/case temp as well as ambient temp. All 3.

get that bit of data together and we'll see where we can go next...

Eh, fuck this. I got my RMAed motherboard today. It still does the same shit. I can't run 200FSB at speeds faster than 6-3-3-2.. This what my old mobo was doing to me, so I RMAed....to just get the same problem. Two different type of ram do the same thing. Dual channel is the problem, but 1 stick in ANY slot works fine, 4-2-2-2...... I don't get this shit.... Pisses me off. Changed the NB voltage.... EVERYTHING! I just don't get it.

and I just betcha if you start a thread over there in the OC forum I/we could help get you up past 200+ dual channel running stable I've managed 228 dual channel with stock nb cooling, a passive sb cooler and a vdd mod with a pencil

I don't think it's that. I've done past 200 before on my old NF7.... This is just odd. I think my old board messed up my RAM sticks. It's too damn weird. I'm waiting 47 minutes so I can call Abit techincal support. BIOS 17 is official now.

Well, I called Abit twice today for tech support. The first guy, man, he was telling me I was running my setup wrong. He told me I needed to run FSB at 133 and the RAM with 4/6 divider. He did not understand how I wanted 200+ FSB. I called OCZ, they were more help than ABIT .... AHAHA!!! But they said it wasn't their ram that was the problem. I called ABIT again after OCZ, the second ABIT guy thought it was specifically the RAM and not the motherboard. I am just gonna send them my original board and let them figure it out.

man those PR/tech guys are morons 9 times out of 10..... Its your board and you can/will do what you want but I say not a thing is wrong with your board or your ram or your temps. You just keep giving up so easily and RMAing everything My rev 1.2 would do 200 out of box dual channel. 205 dual channel no way but would pull it single stick. I could have RMA'd it but chose rather to work with it instead. Now I'm glad I did! IMO, people are expecting far too much from products right out of box..... But anyhow, best of and cheers m8!

really does take a lot of "persuasion" and patience and trial and error I can run sandra mem bench and non 3d proggies at 228 dual channel. Now remember when I pulled the board out of the box, it would not even do 205 dual channel. Really, we are now at the weekend and if you have the time to mess with it, why not try and get it up there first. then if it doesn't cooperate, RMA it. But first at least give it the works and see what she'll give ya

Some quick questions mainly regarding BIOS (and please answer directly to all):
1. did you install your OS with APIC enabled or disabled in BIOS?
2. do you have spread spectrum at 50%? or what is it set at?
3. what is your cpu/ddr ratio?
4. what volts do you have set for vcore, vdimm and vdd?

we can keep going in this thread but I really think you should start another in the OC forum... why?? because I just feel there either are or will be in the future more NF7 owners that would like to OC and will taking the same path you're currently on. A good post with trials and errors and settings etc... could be really useful to others....

1. I did it with APIC enabled, I see not many people find any gains with it disabled.... but maybe I haven't been looking hard...

2. Spread spectrum off CPU and FSB, I know to turn it off

3. ratio, I have used 3/3, 4/4, 5/5, 6/6. The system is unstable anything over 200, I found that out by using 4/6 divider with 133FSB.

4. Volts, I have used almost any combination. I have used the vdd voltage at 1.6v and 1.7v. Vdimm I have used at all voltages. CPU, I have at 1.75 (that's what I need to do 2200 ( and YES, I have tried going higher on that but it didn't help the FSB stability). AGP, I tried 1.5-1.8.

Euro, just see what happens if you install the OS with APIC DISABLED Once you install OS with it enabled, you can't disable it. Have to have it disabled before the OS goes on..... do shuki a favor and at least try it Disabled before installing OS... Then we'll get to volts

Not all of us can just reinstall our OS. I can change it .... I did it once on my NF7 (non S). You just update the driver used for the COMPUTER tab in device manager. The link was on the ABIT forum somewhere. I'll dig it up in a little bit before my GF wakes up to go home.
