)Theoretically, though, it seems to me it would work as long as you have the USB Modem connected to the Internet AND could get the onboard NIC working. BUT, without having that kind of setup myself, I can't vouch for getting it to work that way. It just seems that it should but you'd definitely have to have a working NIC card into which to plug the 360's cable. My son's connection with his 360 works flawlessly using our router and network HUBs. If your onboard NIC is recognized at all, and without any errors in Device Manager, how about picking up a Network Hub and see if you can use that between your 360 and the PC? You'd plug the 360 into one of the CAT5 ports and then use a second CAT5 cable connected to the HUB's Uplink port going to the PC. Essentially, that's how we've got the setup working here. |

I don't have any network hubs that I am aware of.
![]() The last time I had an ICS was with my previous PC that I think had 2 onboard NICs. I mean, I remember having 2 different ones appear there, and it had two different ports on the back. This is pissing me off slightly. First I had to buy a USB card, now a NIC card. FFS, next time I will avoid getting a budget mainboard. BTW, since you mentioned the 360, when I get the new connection and router, they give one for free, I will ask for one with 2 ethernet connections, right? Then plug both the PC and the 360 on that. But, after that what? I know it is slightly off topic. ![]() Just that the only other time I had a router, I only had one PC to connect to it, and it was a horrible horrible experience. (most gaming not working though I had the build in firewall etc etc disabled)

OK, this is so annoying. It works. How? I re initialised the trialware version of Vista, and it was VERY VERY easy to make this work. I mean, way too easy. I mean, this does not help me not wanting to change to Vista one bit.
So, I guess the NIC works fine, it is just XP that wants to behave like an ass about it. Now, if I get a modem router with my new connection, that connects to a PC with a ethernet connection, should I ask for the modem to have 2 ethernet connections so that I plug in the 360 directly to it? Is it even possible? Hmm, then again, I can't use the sound of the Xbox unless I have my PC on, so that is a bit eh, interesting.
