Ausu 5224a comunication failure

i just bought an asus 5224a cdrw and i cant burn a damn thing at any speed with nero. I've tried flashing the firmware with ervery version. tried different ide cables. and different jumper settings. Is there a setting in nero i need to make. Or is this thing just dead.

asus a7n8x dx
xp2700
512 corsair ex
asus52x
asus 52x24x52 cdrw

Is it just Nero it won't work with?

Have you tried burning a CD with the software that comes built into XP ?

Yes i have and it still wont copy. Ive tried Memorex cds and TDK and still nothing. Changed ASPI and still comunication failure, invalid wirte state. It wont copy with the cds that came with the rewriter.

The only way i can get it to work is to make the cdrw my master and my asus 52x my slave.

That's the way it should be connected anyway (well that's how mine is)

If it works this way than thats ok with me. this is the only cdrw i could not slave.How come the cdrw is supose to be the master, all the cdrw's i've seen are slaved off the cd rom.
