I'm hoping right area. I have 512 pc 2100 and my other ram is 512 pc3200 but in bios it reading as pc2100 266mhz if I get 1gig of ram with pc3200 and my currect 512pc3200 would really boost up my speed up in games? I got 55 bucks on a side right now. And I wanted make my computer last another year so that way I can save up for great system later on. Right now my mother board only support unbuffer and 2.5v cas.

Yes, using two PC3200 RAM modules would let you increase the memory speed. But it probably won't do to that much to increase the performance of most games. And if you run with 1GB +512MB RAM then it might not be possible for the motherboard to enable dual channel mode. The motherboard manual may have definite information on that. Lastly, going from 1GB total RAM to 1.5GB total RAM would have a good effect on overall system performance outside games, since extra free memory can always be used by the operating system.

Yes, Robert, you need to keep in mind that whenever you mix RAM like you had, the faster RAM will automatically clock DOWN to match the slower RAM module. So, that PC3200 you had mixed with the PC2100 will now perform at its native speed when you put a new PC3200 module in. When you can swing it, I'd highly suggest matching the PC3200 1 GB you're getting with another just like it.
Cheers! |

Got a feeling the 845 chipset only goes up to DDR266 memory speeds, and does not do dual channel.
Intel's new 845 chipsets Tech Guide in Components Reviews at ZDNet.co.uk - Page 1 Yes, so whatever RAM you use, it's still stuck at DDR266, so replacing the PC2100 512M with a PC3200 will result in 1.5GB still at 266MHz Save your money for the big one.

Confirmed i845 had no dual channel support.
Didn't know/remember the DDR266 limit though
