Cannot delete Awdflash.exe off desktop
I have recently opened the zip file containing awdflash.exe. I extracted the files and after using it I delete the zip file, but the awdflash.exe refuses deletion! Now, I have tried renaming, deleting in safe mode, and neither worked. I get the error "cannot delete awdflash.exe its beening used by another person or program". Any Ideas how to delete the awdflash.exe file?

Did'int realy find any thing in there. I tried to delete in safe mode but it was no good, I also had no luck with finding it running in the "Processes" list. Wow, what else could it be??? Only the PC gods can help me now. There must be a genius out there that can help me figure this out.
Additional Comment: I have a feeling that this thread might explain how to delete it, but I dont know what language it is to translate it. It seems he had the same problem and resolved it Im guessing because of post #8, he has the dancing banana like he figured it out. Any body have an idea how to translate the web page? Try this app, Download MoveOnBoot 1.95 - Allows you to copy, moves or delete files on the next system boot - Softpedia , it worked a treat for a file I had trouble getting rid of. A bloody PDF of all things. Weird what windows takes a liking to.

if you try to use internet resources to find the Awdflash.exe file deletion problem, then you might not find much info.
i would say the standard practice would be to grab whatever info's available, and try to apply the principles. anyway, you didn't say what version of Windows and file system you are using. for XP and NTFS, have you tried logging in using another user account with the appropriate user rights, and try deleting the file in question? |

Yea, you saved me. I had thoughts of reformatting running through my head also. That would have been realy over kill since this little file was not causing any problems at all (No memory or Cpu usage) It was just the principle of the matter. I would not have been able to stand it, just stuck there. You know the feeling. Thanks again.

It is an attrib setting in windows that causes this problem. IE file attributes. For those using XP the file delete app sighted in this forum will work. If you are running Vista you may not get the same results. For users of Vista. ctrl+alt+del to open Windows Task Manager File > New Task (Run...) type "cmd" into the Open prompt (without the quotes) and click okay Find the file location. For those who lack command prompt skills "dir" will bring up a list of files and folders "cd\" take you to root. "cd foldername" changes the directory you are in. "del" will delete a file or folder. So you will want to go to your user's desktop if that is where you unzipped the file. Enter the following set of commands in the command prompt window cd\ (will take you to root IE C:\ in most cases) cd users (enters you into the users directory) dir (will bring up the folders listed inside the users file.) cd yourusernamehere (It will be the name you login to Vista with most likely) cd desktop dir (to make sure AWDFLASH.EXE is listed among the files.) attrib AWDFLASH.EXE -R (takes the file attribute off) del AWDFLASH.EXE (deletes the file) If this file is found in a different location then the desktop finding someone who is command prompt savy can come in handy, the last two commands will work once the file is found. |
