AMD 790FX/790X platform, but which manufacturer?
Looking for a new mobo to put into my rig, currently stuck with an ASUS M2R32-MVP, which has me going insane since my Auzentech X-Fi Prelude wont work properly with it. (Squeel of death anyone?) Tried the newest beta bios update, newest drivers, I even bought a pci card with 5 usb slots to fix the problem, then it turns out my other pci slot is shot.
I've been looking at the newest AMD platforms, but I'm not sure which one would be best suited for me. Running a 4200+ 64 X2 with Corsair 2GB 800mhz memory. Graphics is an ATI Radeon 1950 Pro PCIE, looking to upgrade both that and the processor at some point. Any hints? |

Going Insane.....

AMD is really sucking right now and their B3 Phenoms arent even out yet.
if you want a POWERFUL, CHEAP, and RELIABLE system, i'd go intel unless you wait until the AMD B3 chips are out. i think theyre getting ready to put a new SB chipset on all upcoming AMD boards so its either wait or go Intel Intel and Nvidia is currently the cheapest bang for buck right now.

I built an Intel E8400(3.0Ghz C2D), 2GB RAM, 320GB, 8800GT system for $850 before MIR, for everything but mouse, keyboard, speakers and monitor. That included a pretty good power supply, decent case and SATA DVD DL burner. I could have easily shaved $100 or more off by changing a few components.

If you don't require a crossfire motherboard then one of the 780G based motherboards would be an option, like ASUS M3A-H/HDMI. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. It has the latest southbridge and a couple of neat features while being inexpensive. Keep the current CPU for a little while and up the RAM.

i'd scrap any nforce chipset solution emediately imo.... even the latest nforce intel chipset sucks.... long term..... they just are crap.....
i hate them...This is the 4th time i've said "Never buying them again"... only to go "well, i'll give it another chance" and continueally getting my ass kicked.. either way, Currently a inte E2200 cpu outperforms a x2 4400+ 939 rather easily, combine that with a P35 motherboard such as a Asus P5K-SE motherboard.... and you've got a starter soluiton.

For 790X MSI has a new K9A2 CF Revision 2 board. And it now accepts 125W CPUs. Revision 1 boards do not (Smoke and flame from mine) . I had to RMA my Version 1, but it is a nice board now that it is repaired and I stepped down to a 5000+ Black edition. I have the Platinum too and my 125W 6400+ is in that. MSI does not have the greatest CMOS Interface (BIOS) in my opinion, head and shoulders above ASUS though. My CF board does not OC as well as my Abit KN9 SLI board.
Speaking of ABIT they have a 770 board, the AX78 that is starting to draw a crowd. I haven't heard anyone unhappy with this "Budget" Board.
