Abit KX7-33 and Barton 2500+?

I currently have a KX7-333 mobo and PC2100 DDR (they'll run at CL2 166Mhz no prob), I was wondering if I popped a Barton 2500+ in there will I be just wasting money on the Barton? Would it just be better for me to go with a t-bred B instead, I wanna keep the mobo, it's only a year old.

System Specs

Well, on their website, it show that it only supports these CPU's:
Quote:
- AMD Socket A Duron (100MHz FSB) up to 1.3GHz
- AMD Socket A Athlon (100/133MHz FSB) up to 1.4GHz
- AND Socket A Athlon XP up to 2600+
Apparently it doesn't support a 333MHz FSB
Looks like if you're going to stick with that mobo, you're best option is a Thoroughbred B.
But hey, an xp2400 would still be nice, and might overclock nicely as well.

that's odd, because in the BIOS it has the option for 166mhz RAM, but I guess that's not FSB, thanks

Donator
Its called KX7-333... basted on the KT333. Of course it supports 166mhz FSB. Its right there in the BIOS, right? You should be able to put a Barton in there, or a T'bred B and o/c to 166fsb. I have a KT333 based mobo and I have successfully run a 2400+ @ 166*12.5, which isnt much of an o/c but it wasn't my chip so I dared not to push. Vamp is right though, there isnt a BIOS available on the Abit site which mentions support for Barton. My Albatron KT333 doesn't offically support Barton.

http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/faq/generic/checkcpu.htm doesnt show your board supports Barton...

heres a guy who claims success though....

Thanks, I already know it'll do 166Mhz, that's what I'm running at right now (166x11). Ah I'll just get a t-bred B, it'll be cheaper and I can use that money I'd save towards beer.

Hey does anyone offhand know how high a t-bred b 1700+ will o/c? I'll check overclockers.com, but just wondering if anyone has one and has o/c'd it.

I was gonna get it from here, it's only $100 CDN which after shipping, taxes and the exchange rate is cheaper (I'm in canada) and besides I'll be in Toronto in a couple of weeks so I should be able to go and pick it up saving on the shipping costs. But thanks for the links.

Tried atacom.com, but they won't sell them int'l (like Canada is int'l) so I had to go with here , they just updated their website today so now they have some t-bred 1700's in they won't tell the week though so it's a crapshoot there.

Either way it'll be better than my dead 1600+, it died in transit back from school, I think the AS3 short circuited the cpu cause when I turned it on there was a spark like sound and the comp wouldn't start up, after closer inspection the heatsink moved in transit and some of the AS3 bridged a contact and the core, and one of the diodes (at least that's what I think they are) on the bottom of the CPU had burnt off, oh well, the 1600+ could get past 1837mhz stably.

I think I might buy a Thermaltake Volcano 11+ Xaser Edition instead of using water. Water takes too long to set up and needs maintaince, especially since mine was homegrown. You still might be able to see my watercooling setup here , don't make fun of the website, it was my first one adn I did it in less than 1/2 hr.

just a quick note, the watercooler system no longer looks like that, I've make a 5 1/2" bay res out of some aluminum and have the pump in there and I've managed to fit the rad into my case, and managed to keep the same temps.

It came in, it is a 0310, so I'm gonna wait till my Thermaltake Volcano 11+ Xaser Edition HSF comes in, should be today, and do a burn in then see what I can do with air.

I'm redoing my water system so it's out of commission until I get it fixed up. It looks the impeller is ruined so I'm going to look into the cost for a new impeller, if it's more than $15 or I can't find one I'm gonna get a Hydor 300 (or whatever it is) which will blow my current pump out of hte water. I also want to take a look at getting a rad that will fit in my case maybe a Black Ice Extreme 2, I don't know yet, we'll see how the funds work out this summer.
