Thumbs Down! hosed asus p5e3 delux wifi

got this mb & a corsairxms3 dhx 2x4gb 1600 cl9 ddr3 kit a couple of days ago. it was manafactured lat year so i updated bios & downloaded all the newest vers of the stuuf on the disk as they were way obsolete.
since it was going to be a clean instal went with vista64. aside from a few minor hickups & one major- my razer da got hosed whil updating the firmware so appropraite drivers could be used- everything is lookin good. so figured it was time to OC! what a joke
jsut for backdrop, this cpu was running at 3.8 to 4.0 in p5wd2e the whole timei had it. thee ocz ddr2 8000 performed & oc'd flawlessly. prolly my best, most stable oc ever.
now i got my new faster better mb that is supposed to be oc wonder...
except for a very minor cpu oc to 210 on the bus it will not oc any higher in the from the bios, when i save & reboot it goe to blk screen then reboots to tell me oc failed. the mem wont go past 800 so that means i have to run the mem in the 700s for it to boot. pretty useless.
i played with it for a couple of hrs &finally had to walk away due to high frustration.
this morning i downloaded the ai utility & tried it. seems to do a little better than bios as i have been stable (so far) at 3370 & 842 mem. higher setting s will work for awhile but eventually will get blu screen error &need to reboot.
any way not what i was expecting from this expensive mb. given that it was made last year & i gotto wonder if it was a return that has made it back into channels.
either way, mine is a pos board for oc. though i know many other peeps have done very well with it.

I've a P5E3 board here that I use for testing OC of memory and CPU's in our test systems. Sounds like something in your system isn't going so well because the P5E3 is pretty great... i've had ddr3 up at 2000mhz and cpus in excess of 4.4ghz

Edit: saw your system specs in your profile.

have you tried using slots 2+4 rather than 1+3 for the mem?

i know the yr grt board, just dont think mine is.
i havent tries that yet as the slots im using r what a tech on the asus forums recd.
worth a shot tho. just a mjor problem gettin at it. between my fk up rt elbow & bk, the case wt & placement, it is figuratevly & literally a pain
im thinking about tryin resetting the bios so between that & the swapping mem slots should get me goin on movin it.
course still doesnt help long term as i was planning on 8 gig down the road.
bty temp is not an issue as the cpu is h2o cooled and the case has very good airflow.
also i tried oc just the cpu & keeping the mem below tits apparent 800mhz barrier. still had probs. runs fine at verly low oc or stock speeds tho...
your numbers were kinda what i was expecting given what i got on my previous mb.

No probs, it may make no difference but at least you will have ruled something else out. Good luck.

i would try using a different CPU, try C2D 1333MHZ CPUs and above, if the RAM and CPU still cannot overclock high, then i think the board is somehow defected.

while that is a very good idea i dont have the $$ to buy another cpu. i really couldnt afford this mb but since my other one took a dump, & this one has gotten good reviews & is future proof on cpus for the next year os so...
as i said above this cpu oc'd great on my previous asus 975x based board.
i still cant figure out how a board that is in fairly high demand & was manafactured last year has been sitting in inventory this long, especially when they said they just got it in stock...
bty ty for help panging

finally gave up & called asus. after 5 mins ofexplanation level 2 tech rmad the board. said it will take 10 days onve they get it;(.
anyway should take care of all my oc probs &hopefully a couple of probs i cant pin down to either vista64 or the mb.

razer is replacing my mouse, even thougfh its out of warranty. so thats pretty cool.

i'm not supposed to ask you this, but, don't you interested to try using P45 board, as far as i know some of Asus P5Q's (P45) boards are now selling for at a surprising low price.

y arent u supposed to ask me that?
prob is i have already paid for this mb. for reasons rt/wrng/whatever i prefer to stick with 'x' series chipsets. not that im locked in, just like going for that litlle bit of extra perf/features at an inflated price
& you are rihgt p45 boards are & should get to be an even better buy. as far as cost vs perf goes.

nevertheless, i say get yourself a new C2D (or C2Q) CPU when you can, i would get an E8400 or E6850 if i were you (just need to forget about future proof on the CPU cause these CPUs will be outdated again pretty soon).
and if the board is not a dud motherboard, otherwise, i think with the motherboard model and RAM you have you should be a lot more happy with your overclocking results.

asus has rmad the board. looks like it was a return that got back into channels.
i plan on getting new cpu down the road(2-3 months), just no reall justification for it as my d940 handles everything i throw at it np. especially when its oc to 3.8+.
anyway asus says there is 10 working day turnaround on mb, im sending it out monday, so 2 weeks from today we should know what the deal is. keep your fingers crossed lol

well, i got my replacement mb from asus. & it is a pos. intially it would only recognise 3gig of my 4 gig ram & boot ony intermittently--- & is very slow at booting.
the bios was the initial release bios for this mb. the mb is dated from oct last year.
anyway after 2 unsuccessful attempts i got the bios updated. it mow ses full 4gig of mem but still has bootup probs.
havent even bothered trying to oc yet- the only prob with original mb.
going to take it down & triple check all connections, etc(already dbl chkd) to make sure that isnt problem. wich is a pain due to position & weight of case & my rt arm & bk being fkd up.
really hope i dont have to rma this mb as i really cant afford the shipping & really, really dont want my comp down for another2-3 weeks.

i like to test every new boards i buy before i install it in a case and if i found something i didn't like, then it has to go.
it's not going to be easy when you don't have a different computer parts like RAM, CPU, and etc to test the board, some boards don't like some certain RAM modules.

pmain prob is here is 2 of the same model mb with completely different probs. the new one can actually oc, the old one couldnt. but the new one only boots up 15_2-% of the time. + my xfi has disapeared. gonna try other slot see if that is prob, but even if it works in that slot, i can see it having irq sharing probs... assuming i can get boot prob fixed of course.
but having completely seperate place/equip to test mb is very nice. though you still have to deal with rma...

i myself have quite a few different options that i can actually just pick one and do it fast if i don't like any computer parts i buy, and it's not just a easy said than done.
i don't feel like to put you in a more difficult situation than i already had, so i hope you will do what is easy and best for you anyway, mike2h.

so far ok. cpu is running stable at 3.6, mem ddr900. having vid card issues so until i get that fixed not much point in pushhing further as it is affecting sys stability.
in fact i think it might be responsibnle(or at least contributed to prob) for my prev mb crapping out as i am now getting some of my original probs9based on my exp with my 7950gx2 i wil never buy another dual card this will be my 3rd rma). so until i can get replacement vid card not using my comp.
