just install over the top.

I have them installed and im very happy to say that the Nero SCSI driver bs after installing the "optimised IDE driver" that was apparent in all other versions is now fixed. also a marginal increase in performance on my rig from the early tests ive done.

nice work from nvidia.

well I dont think anyone can tell you what to do, but if you are interested in new drivers id certainly give them a whirl. on the other hand if you have sensitive material on your PC and havent backed up and arent having any problems then stick with what you got.

of course I always try new drivers

I have a question. I recently reformatted my hard drive, and none of my USB devices are working (I have Win XP). I've installed SP1 and the new nForce2 drivers, but still nothing. When installing the nForce2 drivers it tells me "USB 2.0 can be activated by installing Service Pack 1", but it already is installed. My mobo is an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe.

Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind, fixed.

Put in your nforce2 driversCD (that you got with mobo) click the USB2.0 installation thing, it will pop-up a readme, read the readme carefully and follow instructions in it, all you gotta know is how to read

Maybe I can help. What does it say under Device Manager under USB controllers? I just updated the USB controller after I installed the Asus 1.16 by hitting update driver & it found the enhanced drivers which are the 2.0"s.

Thanks everyone. Its working now. However it was no a USB problem, but my own stupidity. Everything was installed right, except for my USB webcam drivers (stupid me).
Thats not the first time I've screwed something up today. I accidently clicked "Windows 2000" instead of XP, and I ended up installing the wrong nForce2 drivers. Then when I realised what I had done, I downloaded DH's Driver Cleaner and erased everything under "nVidia", then installed the right ones.
Not only that, but when I read the USB 2.0 .txt file and followed its directions, I got "The target file is newer than the selected one. Do you want to overwrite?" and I clicked No to all. However now it has Microsoft drivers instead of nVidia drivers.

Should I be ok with all of this? I've seen far too many times how a few bad installations can permenantly screw up Windows, and since I just reformatted on Saturday, I'm feeling a bit scared...

If you are concerned just restore system to the point before you screwed up & start over. Now that there are new Nforce Drivers gives you another reason to reformat

I confirm that the nVidia driver works with my CD-RW drive. Lite-on 24102b. I already optimised my boot time with bootvis. I'll take a look to see if there is really an improvement in speed here.

Weirdly using the built in XP CD maker I needed to quit a AVI running on WMP to be able to give the go ahead to write files to CD! At least it works, kinda.

Using boot vis the fastest time I have got is 27.7 sec to boot windows. This is around 2 sec faster than the old nVidia drivers. Write caching has been greyed out, which is probably something that the nVidia software engineers did. Good stuff.

My speakers however as 99% of the previous installs produce center channel from the left rear channel. I can only get base from selecting 6 channel setup. I use the three analogue outputs and not dolby surround mode( which has only one output for all speakers). This is the only remaining problem nVidia.

These drivers fixed my slow boot-up to Windows! Went from 40+ seconds to 20 seconds. I am happy now!

I could use System Restore, but then again it would probably screw up my system beyond repair and I'd have to reformat for the second time in 3 days...

Oh wait, I did use System Restore, it did screw up my system beyond repair, and I did have to reformat for the second time in 3 days.

Check your CD-Check games - you may be in for a surprise! It seem nVidia has messed up big time here.

I had the same (or at least VERY similiar) problem on my nf7-s! For me the fix was pluggin the black speaker wire into the ORANGE out from mobo and the orange speaker wire into the BLACK output from mobo. Give that a whirl...

and can you elaborate on that CD check games thing?? I have not put these on yet....

abit nf7-s v1.2 here. I just installed them all and benched my hdd performance. Noticably LOWER using George Breeze's hdd bench util. Used driver rollback on the IDE controller and alls back up to par again.

Bandwidth was down from 119 to 116 but sequential went down from like 39 to 20

still have a noticable "hang" now right after the POST...

using standard IDE on WD 8mb 120Gb hdd btw...

strange you said that shuki, when I benched in pcmark2002, my hard drive performance was down 220 points, ive deinstalled the IDE drivers. seems Nvidia have alot of work to do to match the stock windows drivers for performance.

How to tell if NV SW IDE drivers are installed properly?

I've just installed the NV 2.41's. (Mmm, again, but it's probably me). I said yes to the 'SW IDE driver' question, but the performance compared with the previous SW IDE driver is lower according to Sandra2003.

I'd like to check I've not foobed things up. (After doing the 'safe mode' uninstall and saying 'no' to 'found new hardware' messages which came up while still in safe mode, upon reboot I had the 'windows can't boot because system32\..\nvatabus.sys is missing etc.', and had to poke around in recovery console to find it. I knew using dos in the past would come in handy one day . But what's with not being able to search for files while in recovery console? Or use the left and right arrows to move through your previous command which you've brought up with up-arrow?)

What device manager now shows:
'disk drives' shows up with driver 5.1.2535.0 from Microsoft 01/07/2001
'ide ata/atapi controllers' lists 'nvidia nforce2 SPP/IGP ata controller', using ultra dma 5-ultra 100
in 'system devices' the nvidia nforce2 memory controller appears 5 times, all v 3.3.8.0

are these reasonable for a happy nforce 2 system?

Thanks very much

For me bf1942 didn't work and also GTA: VC which I will safely be using No-CD patches for. A little banter on the subject (scroll down more than halfway down page to relevant part:

Im having a problem with the same game!! that is the game i am talking about is BF1942 hehe .. for some reason , when im using the SW driver it wont read the cd when i try to launch it , but all is well if i manually change the driver back to the standard ( which is simple)
