Random ticks & sounds from sound card...
I'm totally confused at the moment...my sound card keeps making loud noises.
Only in Hardware Accelerated things though...like when I test my channels & when I play games that use hardware acceleration.Otherwise it's fine. I reinstalled all newest drivers and all that shit, but to no avail. Here's the weirdest part...I haven't changed anything with my PC since it started doing it. I also cleaned the PCI slot and card itself to make sure it wasn't a bad connection. If you need to hear the sounds I'm referring to, I can record & upload them. My soundcard specs are listed in my Sig.Thanks in advance. -Monkey

if it's the same card i had a few years back, i think there is a jumper on the card that reads VOL_CTRL. try changing the jumpers position, and see what happends.
if that doesn't work maby try using the kX Project drivers, since your card is has a EMU10K1 chip (if it's the same card i'm talking about), maby they will solve the problem...

Sounds good...the EMU10K1 sounds like the same thing I read earlier on it.
Pretty sure of that.Crazy thing is, it has no jumpers...like NONE, odd. kX Project drivers eh?I'll hafta look for that.Google time...

don't worry, the kX Project driver is basicly flawless (this might sound like a comercial... whell it is
), trust me, i've used it with my Sound Blaster 5.1 Live! for years, and not just for playback, but for [roduction purposes too. it's musch smaller (in size) than the original Creative drivers (which install Soundfonts and all kinds of stuff which you are never going to need, don't know why they do that...), it's much more stable (it doesn't pop or crackle, atleast not during playback, in ASIO mode... that's a whole different story alltogether ), and uses all the hardware acceleration the card can give. besides, it has lots of settings. before i installed the kX driver (in the time when i used the original Creative drivers), i didn't even know that the SB 5.1 Live! can be used for production purposes, and i used it for a pritty long time...

Well it seems to work on everything perfect.
It also sounds a hell of a lot better with these Logitech Z-5500 speakers, haha. The only thing it doesn't have its that 96/24 DTS thing...I may test that on my Audigy to see if any actual difference can be heard,

whell if the audigy card has a EMU'xx'K'xxxx' chip, than the driver should probably work.
PS: DSP = Digital Signal Processing, it's what every audio card out there has (a D/A converter or a DAC (Digital/Analog Converter), some filters, probably a Compressor/Expander (sometimes it's reffered to as a Compressoexpander)). but the issue here is what is the quality and type of DACs, filters and Compressoexpanders used in each card, some have a more relaible and better hardware implementations of those things, and other cards don't (there are all sorts of solutions for these kinds of hardware related implementations). your Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 has a quite good implementation of these things, so that's why it sounds good ![]() DTS = Digital Theater Sound, it's the type of the audio stream that DVDs carry written on them. DVDs (movies) usually have two types of streams written in them (or either one of them), it's eaiter Dolby Digital or DTS. DTS isn't really a "copirighted coing" scheme. it uses a Coherant Acoustic Coding scheme but the myth that it's that good are pure marketing trades. apperantly DTS should be better than Dolby Digital, but in reality, they are basicly the same they both use a Perpetual Loop algorhythm to code the audio stream, althow DTS experts claim to say that their algorhythm is better tha Dolby's because it's able to write more audio data into the same audio stream than Doby's algorhythm. so if it's gaming you are interetsed in, then DTS it's not much use to you, since it's only DVD related. as far as i know, most games have Dolby Digital encoded streams, so... there is not much point in looking for those settings.

hahahahahah,
, LOL, don't worry about it, i didn't understand it myself for quite some time, untill i did some digging around on the net... the thing that counts (and that you have to remember) is that DTS is used only in DVD movie playback, it's not used in games, so it really doesn't matter which setting it has .PS: do you know how i can show my system specs in my posts, under the username and all, i know it's somewhere in the user control panel, and i configured (wrote) my system specs, but for some reason, they don't show up on my posts. just PM me if you do heappen to know , thanks...
