Hi
Now that I've managed to locate drivers (thanks to this forum) for my Winfast 6150K8MD motherboard, it is apparent that the onboard graphics are not good enough to run Warhammer Online. I've looked at three possible nVidia cards and I wonder if anyone can tell me how I would determine if these are compatible with my motherboard? I'm running Windows XP by the way. I'm not bothered about having TV on the card. Also, I've been caught out before on my other pc with the power unit not being good enough for the gfx card. I couldn't see any ratings on the descriptions of the cards below - any idea how I'd find this out before buying and reading the box? 1. Inno3D 9600GT OC 512MB DDR3 Overclocked Edition Dual DVI TV Out PCI-E 2. PNY 9600GT 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E 3. Asus 9800GT HybridPower 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E |

If the information that I was able to obtain from the net. That mother board should have PCI-E x16 slot so it would work with those cards since they supports the PCI-E 1.0 specification. And I would get that card from Asus

Thanks for the reply. It was the one I was hoping for :-)
I can usually find the informatin I want on the net, but I must have a blank spot with regards to this mainboard - I'm struggling to find anything useful and I know how expensive a mistake can be, so the advice here is greatly appreciated. Any ideas on the power supply? The last gfx card I bought only a few months ago needed a more powerful one than the one I had in that pc. |

I knew you would ask, and I know I should know :/
Just going to whip the cover off for a peek ... Edit: 450 Edit: I would have thought a 600 would probably be a better option - 450 is really quite entry level, and most likely in this machine as it was only driving an all onboard mainboard (inherited this pc - not my preferred choice; my other pc is a lot better imho) Last edited by Ceddwen; Sep 26, 2008 at 04:30 PM. |

What does this do?

Quote:
-What brand do you have (this effects how close to the maximum wattage it is advisable to go) -How many amps do you have on your 12v rail/rails? -What other hardware are you currentley running, and on what 12v rail/rails? |

Take a look at the HD4670 reviews, strong performance for a card that need no PCI-E power connector, operating entirely on the 75W (uses 60 flat out) available through the slot.
Definitely, the key power for most systems these days is the combined 12V rating, as the major power eaters are all driven from 12V

The only thing that puts me off is that the Sapphire HD4670 512mbV is an ATI Radeon ....
I used Radeons for years - until recently when I had so much trouble that I switched back to nVidia and was surprised at how easy they are to use. The reviews say it needs a 550w psu ... which I don't have at the moment. My main concern is that I get a card that will run Age of Conan with ease. This is my second pc - my main pc gets money lavished on it, but I'm not going to break the bank making this one equally as good. I just need it for when I can't use the other (they live in two different locations) |
