Leadtek Nforce2: Barton 2500 and Ram Incompatibility - Answered

I have been successfully running an AMD 2100+ in my Leadtek Nforce2 MB with Kingston 2700 cl 2.5 ram @ 266 for months. I recently purchased a 2500 Barton and started to get lockups almost immediately. One would presume that it was a defective cpu .....BUT

The ram is now running at 333 instead of 266. Lockups occur even with conservative timings. At Newegg, where I bought everything, there are now comments from purchasers of the ram with incompatibilities with Nforce 2 MB's. Maybe the faster speed showed an incompatibility that was hidden @ 266 (BTW: @266 the ram never hiccupped at 5-2-2 cl 2.0. At 333, I get hangups with 7-3-3 cl 2.5)

The Barton has a larger built in cache. The Latest bios notes reflect compatibility with 2800 and 2600 Bartons but is silent as to the 2500. Maybe the Leadtek mb is the culprit.

Any help appreciated. Anyone sucessfully running a Leatek Nforce2 with a 2500 Barton?

It is the Leadtek motherboard!

Before sending the 2500+ Barton back for an RMA (too late for refund), I decided to take advantage of a great sale at Newegg for an Epox 8KRA+ for $82 with free 2 day shipping. I am now happily typing this message with the same Barton and OCR DDR 3200 memory at 166x12 (2800+ speed).

The LeadtekK7 NCR18 pro works great with my 2100+ @ 1333/266 but will not run the Barton. Go figure. I am keeping it because it screams at its highest and best use and it will soon be at the heart of my second system.

I had a similar problem with the LeadTek nforce2 mobo and an AMD 2500+ Barton. When the system shipped it was equiped with 512mb of Buffalo DDR3200 400mhz RAM. However, when I tried to run programs like Madden 2003, NASCAR 2003 Season, the system would lock up or boot me back to the desktop. When I slowed the memory down to 333mhz, (synch), everything worked. I still have to shut down all virus scan and firewall apps. or I get choppy performance. In an earlier thread, most people suggested better RAM, ie Corsair, OCZ, etc. I have not tried that yet but I am disapointed that I cannot run the memory at 400mhz. That is one of the reason I purchased the machine.
