exclamation Sony 52x CDRW driver help

I recently purchases a Sony 52x CDRW drive from Best Buy. Its a great little unit but I'm having a problem and I believe its a driver issed. I'll tell you right up front, Sony is no help so I'm on my own basiclly.

Here's the problem. I'm burning a CD in Nero (any/all versions) and everything runs like clockwork till the end. It finishes burning the CD (any cd) then finalizes it, writes the Lead IN/OUT, then ejects the CD-tray. Problem is - it freezes the WHOLE system (mouse and all) when it spins down and ejects the CD. This, you can imagine, gets rather obnaxious when you're listening to your favorite MP3.

I checked the driver WinXP loaded for this drive and found its the E version (which I can only assume is the USB/External version of this drive). The drive did not come with any driver software (unless its built into the crappy Sony burning sh!t) and its not available from Sony's website.

Direct Link to this drive on Sony.com

Windows loads the "SONY CD-RW CRX220E1" driver and I'm almost positive this is an External driver and thats causing the lockup when it ejects the CD.

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The 220E1 appears to be a 100% Liteon - but I thought Sony supplied "B's Gold", not Nero?
PS. Bundled Nero is keyed by drive make, so if they did bundle it, reflashing to Liteon will void it, as well as your warranty! - other software may have similar ties, but it's 100% confirmed that Nero does.

Is there any way you can try to manually change the driver, maybe thru device manager, and choose to "show all hardware" and see if another similar driver is on the list?

But hmmm . . . I have an internal Sony CD-RW I recently removed from my PC, and the model is CRX140E . . . so I don't think the 'E' necessarily means External.

I don't want to use the crappy software that came with the burner - thats why I'm using Nero. And Windows won't load any other type of driver for it. Its either this one, or no one. But hearing its a liteon drive might be something worth looking into. I'm wondering if its JUST Nero thats doing this. I vaguely remember CloneCD burning w/o pause... might be another angle to work. One thing I really am not happy about is the 52x or 48x CDR speeds. Even with 48x certified CD's it will only burn at 40 (yeah yeah I know, the faster you burn the lesser quality the burn is, but a drive that goes up to this speed should support the speeds below it.)

crx220a1 - box
crx220e1 - oem

That would explain things.

If you are using Windows XP try to disable IMAPI Service.

Its disabled. One of the first things I do when I reinstall XP. I'm leaning towards this being a Nero only issue - still doing some investigation.
