What Am I doing Wrong ???
As some of you may know I was having alot of problems with a Biostar Tpower X58 board that had a cold boot problem. I couldn't find a cure so I replaced the Biostar board with a Foxconn BloodRage GTI. That solved my cold boot problems. Now, I'm not sure I have a problem or not? Look at the screen below
![]() I'm not OCing and at the moment everthing is at stock. Looking at those two screens it says that my i7 940 processor is running at 1604MHz. I'd swear I have things setup in the Bios correctly, but now I'm not sure. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One more thing, I'm sure I haven't given enough info, so if you need something else, please ask. I apologize for taking up your valuable time.

Bus speed looks pretty slow.

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
Looks that way here too Ty.
As for our valuable time drwho we are here to help Bro. Wish I had an i7 processor and X58 mobo to provide some feedback. Since I don't own either of those I can only speculate on my advise. In my BIOS there is a setting called EIST disable it if it is included in the X58 BIOS. Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology How To Document

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
It's likely that nothing's wrong at all. Since you are basically idle, the CPU is in a power saving mode.
Try downloading and running Prime95 available Here and run it. It should run in a window - not full screen - so you can run CPU-Z at the same time and watch your clock speed jump to full speed when the program puts a load on your CPU and memory.

Ok, I've tried running Prime95. As soon as it starts I get a BSOD. ![]() Ok, I went back and tried running Prime95 again and this time it seems to be running fine. It looks like you were right, swimtech. The processor seems to be idling, when running prime95 the core speed is up where it should be and the vcore is at 1.29v.

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
Cool - and glad you got Prime95 going ok 'cause I got notice it had BSOD'd on you, and I was at a loss to explain that issue...
Now, like Mac Daddy mentioned, you can if you like go back into your Bios setup and turn off EIST and other power saving settings if you'd like to run your machine's CPU and memory clock manually and not have the mainboard controlling things based upon CPU load. Some boards will even allow overclocking with the power saving settings left on - some won't - I don't know about your particular board. But, that is part of the adventure of getting new components and jiggling with the settings - overclocking or not! Generally though, overclocking with power saving features left on in the bios reduces overclock stability and increases the number of factors you have to remember to keep track of while adjusting overclocking parameters. If I were you, I'd run your machine awhile at stock and learn how your system reacts to the various settings you choose. My personal opinion - your processor and mainboard are ideally suited for some overclocking experimentation. If you decide to do that, go slow, read a lot, learn your components, see what others with your same stuff are able to do. This incident has obviously helped you to get to know how your system reacts to the settings you've chosen. You've got a really nice MB/CPU combo going there!

Thanks for your help, guys. I appreciate your help. I've disabled the EIST and you can see the results below. ![]() Have to admit that I really like this new motherboard and the way it runs. Where is a good place to learn the basics of ocing an i7 processor?

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
If the EIST setting resolved this issue as it did on my E6550 / X38 then the principles may in fact be similar. The only real difference is the i7 uses an on CPU memory controller much like the AMD CPU's.
I don't have an i7 CPU or X58 board here but if I was sent one I surely would write a comprehensive guide on overclocking this. Anyway glad you got this issue solved mate

Official BIOSTAR TPower X58 Review/Overclock/Guide Thread I also came across the New Rebels Haven Forum where it is only about the TPower x58.

I need to change my computer specs. I'm using a Foxconn BloodRage GTI instead of the Biostar board. I had a cold boot problem and was never able to solve the problem. The Foxconn board has replaced it. Thanks for the links, cozumel.

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
Apologies, if I had read your first post properly I would have known your specs were wrong. Here is a thread on overclocking the BloodRage. Although it is not the GTI version, much of the BIOS layout should be similar I would think.

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
Here's a page at Xbit Labs from a review they did on the board that might help - looks interesting too.
Here as well at DH in the midst of the January 2009 mainboard roundup is some information, including a link to complete bios screens, on the Foxconn Bloodrage board. These may assist you some, I hope...

Re: What Am I doing Wrong ???
I think the forum I linked to is on an automatic ban from DH. So (on post #11) it kept the words 'here is' but removed the embedded link on auto, I think. I tried to do the link again on post #13 but when I tested it (on preview) I found it blocked by DH, so I just made the post an apology lol and left it at that. And besides, swimtech has posted some good links.
I am also following along for the heads up for when I get to upgrade.
