Verizon DSL and Gaming / P2P
I was finally able to get DSL internet but I am having a few troubles and I am a total newbie when it comes to routers / dsl /cable modems. I am having problems trying to connect to Utorrent and a couple online games. As of right now I do not have a router I go str8 from DSL modem to PC. I was able to get to the modem config page and I tried to set up portforwarding for utorrent. The test from with in utorrent is saying the port is open, but its not connecting and the tracker keeps timing out. I have tried several torrent files with several seeds so I dont think the trackers are bad. I am also trying to check out combat arms and I get an error saying the PC cant communicate with the servers. Combat arms uses the pando media booster or something like that and it has a port test and all ports failed which were.... 80, 463, 53x, and 50000 something. I have been seaching around and other users are saying the verizon blocks inbound port 80 and possibly others. My main question is if I got a router would I be able to game and p2p w/o any troubles? What would be a good brand to get and how exactly would I go about setting up the router?
Thanks Kevin

Re: Verizon DSL and Gaming / P2P
Well, I can't say that it will work but you might be able to forward ports on a router to get it to work. However, if Verizon is actively block the inbound port 80 that could be an issue. I would suggest getting some type of router and giving it a shot but I can't really tell you what would work and what wouldn't. I think just getting any old basic router will be fine for what you are needing to do.
Keep in mind I have no idea if getting a router will improve your situation at all.
