Sager 5797 Wireless Problems

Here's the run-down...

Problem: Internet runs pretty quick, faultering maybe once an hour or two. Online gaming, however, I get around 60-120ms latency, but about every 20 seconds, I lag up and shoot back to where my character was located about 10 seconds ago. Constant rubber band effect. I think this is called "Loss".

Hardware: Sager NP5797 Laptop with the Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300AGN - 802.11A/B/G/N

Router:
WRT310N Linksys Router (Wireless N Ultra Router)

Local Systems:
3 laptops (Sager, Sony, Dell)

1) I just can't figure out why I am rubber banding so incredibly bad. I am about 60 feet from the computer in a house, on the same floor. Nothing but 4 walls separating the laptop and router. I brought my computer into the same room, 2 feet from the router exactly. Loaded the game and still had rubber band, in fact even worse.

2) So then I connected straight to the router and there was 0 loss...perfect connection with no rubber band. I would stay there but it's my dad's office. That's a no go.

I am wondering how the heck to kill/reduce this Loss...cuz the latency is decent but the loss is what i think is causing the rubber banding. And i figured it was the Road Runner cable we get, but when connected right to it, it was perfect. Not sure what to do. Any help is VERY VERY appreciated.

Note: It even says my wireless card is fully updated on drivers and that it's working fully. I get all 5 bars in my room as well. So it's not a signal strength problem, I think...?

No, but they don't play any games and they usually aren't used at the same time as this one.

Re: Sager 5797 Wireless Problems

try installing some games on the other two notebooks (online playable of course ) and try playing and see if the other ones have the same reaction...

this is one of the simplest ways to determine if the problem is in the router or the wireless card on your notebook...

Re: Sager 5797 Wireless Problems

i just remembered something, if you're using XP, there is this service running in the background, it's called Wireless Zero Configuration, sometimes this service can cause lags and rubber band effects. this service checks for new network connections every 30 seconds or so, and in some cases can cause a lag at the existing connection. try disabling this service and see what happens . of course, if you disable the service, you would have to configure the wireless network manually :S. kind of a long shot, but definitely worth a try...

Re: Sager 5797 Wireless Problems

I have Vista Home Premium 64bit right now, but they gave me that free upgrade to Windows 7, so I'm pondering using that now. Last night I got completely clean internet...no lag whatsoever. I downloaded a new driver for the wireless card and then a Utility thing for the wireless card. When I used it right after installing, there was still terrible lag...but then about 6 hours later when I came back, it was absolutely clean for all 3 hours of play. I figured I would take advantage of the good internet at the time so I stayed up late lol.

I hope this is the end of my problems and not just a luck of the draw 0% packet loss session.
