Cant Enter Password to Own WiFi Network?
I set up my friends router about 2 weeks ago. It was working fine till today. There are 3 PCs using it. He has a work PC, Personal PC, and his mom has a PC (all are laptops). When I first set it up the network I encountered a problem w/ his mom's PC. The network was showing up as encrypted (wpa/2) and when the box came up to put in the password it would not let you type in the box at all. I tried opening up notepad, typing the password in there and copy/paste it into the box. It would let you paste in the box, but only the first 6-7 digits of the password would paste. Both the other PCs worked fine PW box would come up and you typed it in and it would connect....I ended up creating a new profile and manually entering in all the network info and it worked that way, but the password problem just dumbfounded me?
My next question is he couldnt get online today so I told him to turn the router off and on, and after that it worked. However, the network name seemed to get wiped out. The encryption and stuff stayed the same, only the network name was gone. It defaulted back to just linksys. I thought you had to do a hard reset of the router for something like that to happen. He internet is working fine I was just confused as to these two problems, any help or insight would be appreciated.

Re: Cant Enter Password to Own WiFi Network?
I have had some routers that are getting up in age on networks that I have setup do the second issue. My old Belkin router reset the SSID when it was unplugged a couple times and (right before it finally bit the dust) it reset to default when I unplugged it to mess with my cable modem.
The only solution I can come up with the first issue was that something on the laptop itself must have been funny. the easiest way to fix that would be to remove it from the list of saved networks on the laptop and then establish a new connection to the router.

Re: Cant Enter Password to Own WiFi Network?
another thing to try is physically resetting the router to factory default setting. Many have a small pin size button that has to be depressed to reset everything
