Re: need a bios update
So the "m" makes a difference? I didn't see any "m" notebook models there so I thought that Aspire 5100 was what you were looking for.

Re: need a bios update
Sorry, when I see Acer I immediately think of notebooks, don't know why
![]() However, there is no BIOS update listed on the m5100 downloads page. Do you have a problem that needs to be fixed specifically with a new BIOS? |

Re: need a bios update
occasionally when booting up, it'll get hung up in the bios at the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" stage and the computer will be non-functional until i pop out the CMOS. i'm not totally sure, but i believe an outdated bios is the problem.

Re: need a bios update
Found this, there is a BIOS version R02-B1, that should be what you are looking for?

Re: need a bios update
Hey guys,
sorry to thread jack or anything, but I've had problems with booting up windows 7 and I've narrowed the problem to my graphic card. I have an acer aspire m5100 and a 8800 GT Nvidia card with the above user's MOBO. I want to update my bios because I know it is out of date to see if that will finally fix the problem, as I have tried everything else (updating drivers, connection problems, etc). I downloaded the R02-B1 update as the user above posted and have a set of files I don't know what to do with. Thanks a lot for helping me flash my MOBO. |

Re: need a bios update
@Nick: First of all make sure you are talking about the same pc.
You have a M5100, but also a 8800GT graphics card. Is it a desktop, or a laptop? Make sure you get the correct bios. The easiest way is to use the Winflash method On the website you can download it at the bios files), but that is also one of the more 'dangerous' (read might fail and kill your mobo) Another method is by using a floppy drive. You just put all three files on a bootable floppy and switch you bios to 'boot from floppy'. Run AWDFLASH.exe, follow the instructions on screen and don't switch off your pc. If you don't have a floppy drive, follow these instructions to use a usb-drive to update your bios. It tells you how to make a bootable drive. Then just put everything on there and same as above. Hope that works. Good luck.

Re: need a bios update
Another option if you have no floppy is make a bootable CD with a floppy partition (Where you burn the image as bootable from floppy) Nero does it, and I've done it that way, as floppies these days are cheap and tend to get corrupted mad easy.
But other then that Jacco's options are pretty much the way to go. |
