My Utorrent ports just WON'T open up...HELP!!!
I'm using a Linksys wireless - G Router. Model: WRT54G and (unfortunately) a USB wireless adapter. It's a Samsung SWL-2300U on Windows XP SP3.
I haven't been able to get any ports to open up properly using Utorrent with my wireless connection. It's a very strange situation for several reasons. The main reason being that a year ago when I used this exact same setup everything worked fine, now it just refuses to conform. If I hook up a cable directly to the DSL modem Utorrent works fine. With the wireless the icon at the bottom of the screen indicating connectivity goes strait to yellow for several hours and eventually to red. I have added a Utorrent exception in Windows firewall, and forwarded ports at the router to no avail. I'm at a loss and was hoping someon here could throw me some answers. Thanks in advance. |

Re: My Utorrent ports just WON'T open up...HELP!!!
I'm not completely sure I understand the question, but if you're asking if the port that uTorrent is currently using is forwarded at the router, then the answer is yes.
P.S. I just made my browser do something funny...sorry if I'm double posting this ![]() I actually just thought of two things... 1) I just figured out what you were asking me, and yes, the port that i forwarded is the same as the port that uTorrent is using 2) Should I have the port forwarded at the modem as well? If I remember correctly, that causes problems, but I could be wrong, so I figure i should ask. Last edited by onlyoneman; Nov 15, 2009 at 03:59 PM. Reason: update |

I don't have much experience running uTorrent behind a router since I typically DMZ the main systems IP. But I'd look for a new firmware for the router if it hasn't been updated in a while. It can do wonders sometimes. Also double check that UPnP port mapping is enabled in uTorrent.

Try fully resetting your router (after backing up your settings) then restoring, and see if it works, it may be corrupted. I've had it happen to many a linksys router.

I'd suggest that you go to http://www.portforward.com/ and see if your modem is on their site. With my old Cisco 675 it wasn't necessary, but when I upgraded to a higher speed, I was given a Westell 6100. As soon as I started using it, I found that I couldn't hose IL2 co-ops. I also have a WRT54G, so I checked it, and the port was forwarded, so I called my ISP and they said that I needed to forward the port in the modem as well as in the router. I did that and now I'm happily hosting co-ops. With uTorrent, I just made it use the same port, so I didn't have to go back in and open up any more ports.
