Does my MOBO need to run DDR5?

Hypothetical question here -

Say I wanted to put together a system using a video card that runs DDR5 memory. Would I need to use a main board with the same memory type?

No, and you probably mean gddr5 for the video card. The ddr5 standard, or even ddr4 don't exist for system boards yet.

iPlayer is correct.

Video card memory has no effect on whether a card is compatible with your motherboard. Only the type of interface (PCI, AGP, PCI-E) will do that.

Also depending on the type of card, and your setup, it may not be necessary, GDDR5 is helpful in High resolutions where the memory access needs to be quick, like 1920x1080+
As Anti-aliasing etc, quickly fills bandwidth and needs constant rewrites.
