Alienware 5500 BIOS help!

Hey guys,

This is my 1st post. I recently bought a secondhand Alienware Aurora 5500 with an Abit AV8 motherboard and need to update the BIOS to add compatibility for new drives that I have. I cannot get access to the 'My Hive' section of the Alienware site where these updats reside and the Abit's update don't work. I have read that Alienware adjust their motherboards to only accept Alienware updates. Can someone please post a link to the last Alienware AV8 BIOS update or if someone has a similar system, can they upload it somewhere. Have been looking for ages and cannot find it anywhere. I will be so grateful, have spent days looking but to no avail. Please guys.

Hopefully someone with access can provide you with updated bios, if any exists for your mobo. Failing that you could try a hot flashing or replacing the bios chip altogether.

Why not create account to the alienware site and get the update from there?

It is a second hand Alienware and I do not have the details to create an account. Such a frustrating issue. May have to get another motherboard.

That seems a bit too drastic. I assume you already tried contacting the original owner about it.

I did and it was a no-go. The last BIOS update available for the motherboard is in 2005 so as I gradually upgrade, I may have to. In the meantime though I need to update. Alienware support have been absolutely no help whatsoever.
