Someone trying to hack my wireless?
I don't know if this is normal or not, this started appearing a few weeks ago in my wireless routers log. I completely disabled the wireless for a couple of weeks and then turned it on again, only to see the same thing again.
Code:
Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-1F-3A-1A-E0-41 Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-26-F2-00-6A-16 Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-19-5B-DC-F2-FE Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-26-F2-00-6A-16 Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-19-5B-DC-F2-FE Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-26-F2-00-6A-16 Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-19-5B-DC-F2-FE Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-19-5B-DC-F2-FE Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-26-F2-00-6A-16 Monday February 01, 2010 20:28:58 Unallowed access from WLAN 00-19-5B-DC-F2-FE After clearing the log I and then click refresh after abuot 3 seconds I've got 7 of these pages in the log so I'm hit about 20-25 times a second from 3 different mac addresses. |

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
i beleive that happens when someone make an attempt at accessing your wireless router without a pin....
not necessarily trying to hack it, but a number of laptops will roam and automatically try to connect even to some secure wireless routers. also considering that there is a different mac address from every attempt, would suggest this to be true.

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
No, I've got at most 47 pages like that. All from within only a few seconds.
Changed encryption method, channel and also updated the firmware and now it's a lot less of this. |

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
oh by the way what kind of router do you have, isnt there a way of hiding the SSid or even filtering using your MAC... it should reduce the large amount of random people knocking on your door

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
I have mac filter on so I'm not to worried. Changed to a harder encryption as well as channel and I see a lot less of this now.

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
Yeah looks like something is up. I would thing that it's most likely a few random WiFi devices trying to connect to your router....has this just happened recently or has this been happening a lot only just recently

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
I only discovered it a few weeks ago. Haven't been checking the log that much up until then so I don't know for how long it's been going on, but all I can say is that from one of those mac addresses I've been hit about 6-10 times a second 24/7. That doesn't sound just like a normal WiFi scan...

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
If you've got WPA2 enabled you're good to go, Mac filtering is easily spoofable, but both combined and you're fine.

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
I was using WEP before, I was the only one around with a wireless router. Now there's like 8 wireless networks that I can reach and this has been going on.
Yes, I switched to WPA2 at the same time as I made the other changes. |

Re: Someone trying to hack my wireless?
Yea well as far as it's known though it will not always be so, WPA2 is the only uncrackable encryption scheme wireless has (for the moment) as long as you're using WPA - AES you shouldn't be worried.
For my router, I also set the limitation of exactly how many wireless devices I will be using. |

Well, the problem seems to have gone away now so... it's all good.
