cpu and motherboard compatability

hey every1

I was given a puter with e5200 on a ecs 662/1066-m2 it runs ok but cpuid says that the cpu is only running at 1200 (6x200) it should be double that to run at 2500 ?

In the bios there is no manual way of setting the multiplier so i.m really not sure if its set up right or the mobo doesnt like the e5200

and ive updated bios to latest

any ideas??

Re: cpu and motherboard compatability

It's most likely SpeedStep in effect. Basically when your cpu is idle or doing very little work the cpu clocks itself down to save power and heat.

If you load the cpu with something (such as prime95) you should see it go back up to 2.5ghz.

The other, but less likely situation, would be that the cpu is overheating and is throttling itself.

^ I agree. My E5200 has the SpeedStep feature.

yep, also works with winrar, just hit the winrar benchmark button and you should see it go at the full speed.

Re: cpu and motherboard compatability

Still the same its really only running 1200 instead of 2500

i ran winrar and prime95 and it only gave me numbers 582 kb

Really all i want to know if the cpu is compatible with mobo as i can not change the multipler..... A puter running at half speed is dead to me

does any1 have the same prob

Re: cpu and motherboard compatability

That 45nm CPU is supposedly not supported by your mobo

ECS Web Site

You might want to try the E5200 on another mobo?

Re: cpu and motherboard compatability

I'd suggest flashing the BIOS but looking at the support page, the fixes are only for 65nm CPU

ECS Web Site

Might as sell that ECS board and get at least a G31 chipset board.

Re: cpu and motherboard compatability

yeah....I'm thinking that that ECS isn't going to patch in that BIOS update any time soon if ever. Unfortunately that seems to be the matter of course for ECS. In my experience they don't provide a ton of BIOS updates for the ones I've had very far after the release date.
