RAID 0 on my motherboard

So, Interesting issue with my motherboard on my main rig. I haven't ever tried to use the onboard RAID on this board until recently. Upon a fresh install of Win 7 Ult 64 after my RC ran dry I decided to run a RAID 0 with matching WD 160 GB drives. They are not new but they were reformatted prior to use. Basically, the RAID drives setup perfectly as they are supposed to. However, when it comes time to actually install Windows I hit a wall. When I go to load the RAID controller driver it all falls apart. when I load the driver and click next I get the message to use the load driver option to install the third party driver (which i already did of course) and then it just takes me back to the driver select screen which, of course, won't let me install an OS on the RAID because I haven't loaded the driver and just says "Windows cannot install on this device."

I have tried this about 50 times across three different days with all different versions of the RAID drivers and nothing is working.... HELP!!!!

Re: RAID 0 on my motherboard

What is the raid controller?

Personally i wouldn't suggest bothing with raid on either the ATI or Nvidia raid controllers as the performance benefits are relatively poor at best whenever i've tried dealing with them (and quite frequently run into errors or issues similare to that of what your talking about for rather rediculious reasons)

Best thing to do is make sure your trying to provide the RAID/ACHI driver and not the generic sata ide driver.

Need more information however.

Re: RAID 0 on my motherboard

Sometimes when downloading RAID driver packages there can be separate ones that specifically support booting from the RAID and other ones that do not, depending on the interface. But I'd avoid RAID in that situation too. Get a single new drive instead and performance might even be better.

Re: RAID 0 on my motherboard

As far as I'm aware trying to get Windows 7 loaded onto any nForce4 board is a pain in the a$$. Funny enough I've had THIS page bookmarked for over a year after having to do this for a client (last updated in October 2009, but it worked). Pay attention to the 3rd bullet point under "General Information" as this is the big thing that was killing me. Be sure to read it through, and pick the best way for you, and download what you need.

Just remember this: you want the nForce4 64bit driver listed under the Preparations section. You want to extract, and put ALL of the contents of that pack onto whatever you are going to use (ie. a USB flash drive). During the install you pick whatever folder you need for whatever installation method you've chosen.

Yeah, this guide worked for me for my nforce4 system, took about a dozen reboots to get it working properly though.

Re: RAID 0 on my motherboard

Well it is the AMD RAID controller and I have heard a lot of stories out there of it not working very well if at all. I was more just wanting to test out what I had. The main point being I really didn't want to buy a brand new, faster HDD atm so I just thought I would throw RAID on there and see how it did. But it hasn't worked. I've essentially tried every RAID driver in the package from ASUS so I think I'm just going to give it up and buy a newer, faster drive sometime soon.
