Re: Need Bios update for Mercury PIG31Z motherboard
if you have build a new system (with new hardware like you say) and put in a harddrive with an existing OS, you need to re-install the OS. No updated BIOS will help you.
To look for the make and model of the motherboard, open up the case and take a look at the motherboard, make and model should be on there.

Re: Need Bios update for Mercury PIG31Z motherboard
Thanks for the reply Neshi. But I have done that more than a dozen times ( Fedora and XP).
I have changed the following hardware parts as well SMPS, Bus, Hard disk, RAM, Processor. So believe my BIOS could have gone corrupt. So want to try reinstall BIOS. Also let me know if there could be some other problem. Thanks, Highwaystar86 |

Re: Need Bios update for Mercury PIG31Z motherboard
never heard of mercury as a motherboard manufacturer. But I checked the site and they don't list a bios as a downloadable driver.
You can send them an email asking for a Bios for that board. Could you list all of your system specs? It could be a case of not a powerful enough power supply.

Re: Need Bios update for Mercury PIG31Z motherboard
Thanks Neshi for taking the pain to reply Again. But finally found out the problem of restarting. It was the cabinet. The wire connecting the power on and restart button had a loose contact. I have changed every part inside without realizing this

Re: Need Bios update for Mercury PIG31Z motherboard
There are two BIOS files listed on the Mecury site for that board.....
HERE It doesn't say anything on the site about "how to", or any BIOS utilities, nor what dates they were, so I would imagine that's part of the download. Always read, UNDERSTAND and follow the directions for a BIOS update. If you mess it up you could be tossing that motherboard in the trash. Mig is correct, you need to get any BIOS updates directly from the Motherboard manufacturer or if it's a pre-built from the system manufacturer. NOW! Flashing a BIOS is not a fix for a system that keeps restarting. Find the problem first, get it solid and then think about flashing the BIOS only if there is a reason to. Seriously! If that thing restarts during the BIOS flash, say due to a bad PSU, kiss that motherboard goodby.
