Asus P5Q WS question

This is embarrassing, but, how can I remove the graphics card from the slot?
The mainboard/card? (too difficult to see) has a plastic "leg" which seems to be part of a locking mechanism of the card-motherboard. I don't want to risk damaging the mainboard or the card by doing something bad like forcing it to the wrong direction etc.
Anyone knows?

you basically bend the plastic lever of the slot latch upwards (up, away from the card) until the "tooth" of the latch is free of the notch in your graphics card's slot.

while holding that lever, pull your graphics card out. (be sure its unscrewed)

Hmm, first we need to agree on that the mainboard is lying flat, right?
So, when you say upwards you mean, towards the sky, or towards the bottom side of the case?

if the motherboard is flat, that would mean tilting the lever towards the top of the motherboard.

If it's laying flat, you bend it horizontally in the direction AWAY from the gfx unit.

Likewise, it doesn't really matter if it breaks as long as the card isn't damaged, as it can be held in using proper screws (though I'd recommend not breaking it off).

btw, slightly relevant question. To remove a stock Intel heatsink from a LGA775 CPU, do I have to work on the back on the mainboard at all? Or it can be done from the front/top of it no problem?

in nearly all cases, you only need to work on the top, just unlock the 4 plastic rivet type fasteners and youre set...

there should be little plastic arrows which tell you how to rotate the locks so you can pull them upwards to release.

As soon as I have my new graphics card here, I plan on rebuilding my pc in a different case. I will let you know how it goes/went.
