Dumb question
Right now i have a Biostar TA790GX A2+ and a AMD phenom 9850 processor. I have a new AMD phenom II x4 940 coming in the mail and as of right now I have OLD bios from 2008 that do not support the new processor.
- My question is. If i update bios now, Will the latest bios for my motherboard work for also my 9850 and my new phenom II? |

Re: Dumb question
By the looks of it yes. The update is in the BIOS downloads from Biostar.

Re: Dumb question
So its pretty much all the other revisions crammed into that one and that's the best one for me to get? Sorry I'm a noob.

Re: Dumb question
yea. Latest bios is always all other updates/versions before it, with something new added.
However, this doesn't mean that you must always update the bios to the latest version. If a bios update adds support for a newer kind of processor, and you have no intention of using this new processor, then updating the bios doesn't really make sense. If you know what I mean.

Re: Dumb question
Don't worry about that. When a new BIOS adds a new CPU, it always keeps support for al the previously supported models.

Re: Dumb question
check if the manufacturer provided a flash program. I've used those and they are really user-friendly.
Otherwise, I have used floppy disks and I think I might recall doing it with a usb stick..

Re: Dumb question
I updated my bios with the USB stick/Bio-flasher utility(outside of windows) it was successful. I was really nervous haha. First boot into windows alot of my tray icons wouldn't show up. But after a reboot (turned on-board GPU off) everything seems to be working like before (windows 7). Thanks ALOT guys

Re: Dumb question
Good news, I've never had a bios update go wrong in my years, but I still get nervous when flashing any firmware lol.
