Odd cardreader/drive problem
I have a weird problem with a card reader, it overrides a backup drive e.g drive F: and no longer shows up in My Computer.. And every slot on the card reader shows up as a drive (annoying) even though there is nothing plugged in. Now, call me a n00b but is there a setting to where i can shut that off? Or to make my back up drive show up again? The OS is windows xp service pack 3, hardware is an intel mobo with a pentium 4 and 1gb ddr2, card reader is some randy Nippon labs generic cardreader

Re: Odd cardreader/drive problem
Card readers do that....... Not sure how to turn it off. As far as overwriting the backup drive, couldn't you assign a letter to the backup drive beyond what the card reader occupies.... like "M" or something?

Re: Odd cardreader/drive problem
There are some cases where i've seen windows xp machines being hardcoded via software installed for th backup solution which seems to do this..
i've ran into numerous cases where plugging in a usb flash drive wouldn't actually open the flash folder but kept insisting i was trying to access another drive.. Surfice it to say.. it was intermittent... seemed like 90% of the time it would read the flash drive as the backup.... 10% chance of getting the actual flash drive.. very annoying. likely registry or maybe it's just a windows xp bug.. this also occured with card readers too. access the drive.... said it was empty.... bizarre. Try and use the windows storage manager to move the drive letters around.... i've had to set the card readers as Z and up.... then i plugged in the usb flash drive and it seemed to work more frequently.

Re: Odd cardreader/drive problem
If the backup drive is on a different machine try re sharing it from the server and see if that helps....... Not sure that it will, but worth a shot.

Re: Odd cardreader/drive problem
Ok so i was able to figure it out, after switching removable drive letter names i rebooted and did not get the result i was looking for. I fixed it by making a path/mapping of the back up drive on the server with the storage management in administrative tools! Thanks for the help
