future boards

So when do you guys think we can see boards with all SATA 6Gbps and possibly more than half (or all) USB 3.0 ports standard? There's about half 6Gbps ports on some boards now.

i was bored and wanted to post this question lol

i'm hoping that new boards will have the full load when sandybridge arrived.. but i was let down.. maybe the successor to the current one later this year will feed my wishes.

Actually in terms of SATA III .... i was hoping ICH11R would show up.

Yeah its the costly NEC controller that probably holds them back for full USB 3.0. I think once the back to school and christmas season of computers and laptops are out more boards should have them.

Looks like 1 1/2 - 2 years for Intel even their newly announced/rumored chipsets still have Sata 3Gbps ports on them. AMD on the otherhand has all 6Gbps boards right now USB 3.0 seems to be in sight for next year(SB1000?). Although certain Hudson chipsets seem to have some USB 3.0 ports built in especially the ones for llano from what I have read. (Hudson M3 and D3)

My ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 has:

Mainboard
8 x SATA 6Gb/s

Rear Panel
6 x USB 2.0
2 x USB 3.0
1 x eSATA3

Onboard
2 x USB 2.0 headers (support 4 USB 2.0 ports)
1 x USB 3.0 header (supports 2 USB 3.0 ports)

That's overkill on the USB 3.0 right now, since I don't have and 3.0 devices, but I still use them with my flash drives. At least I know that they are runing as fast as they can

considering that usb3.0 is backward capatible... it would make sense to just replace ALL the USB2.0 ports with 3.0 and be done with it.

I'm thinking that the 9xx series chipsets from AMD might just do that.

Of course, that's going to make a lot of the USB front/top panel slots like the one on my 690II unusable. Case mfgs would have to do a pretty quick job of playing "catch up". Unless it's possible to use an adapter to go from the 3.0 on the MB to the 2.0 on the case.

I have noticed that there are some cases out claiming USB 3.0 slots now, so they are at least starting to support it.

Unfortunately only the Hudson M3 (mobile) and Hudson D3(desktop) are going to have integrated USB3.0 from AMD this year.. I wish the 9xx series from AMD would have that but nothing is pointing to that coming true

. But I am guessing when Bulldozer II comes out with the Xxx? or 10xx? series chipset we will see all USB3.0 ports for the high end. As of now it seems the Mainstream users will be getting builtin USB3 in the chipset (Llano and Zacate).

if they are backward capatible.... there is no reason why they chouldn't make excisting 2.0 ports on cases not work IN 2.0 mode on usb 3.0 headers.. (with an adapter that removes the extra pin or whatever.)
