network activity
Is there a program or some way to monitor which program is using the internet, for either uploading or downloading.
At the moment I have a problem. I am doing no active downloading or uploading, but I have Bitmeter installed. I see that I am actively uploading and after a day (my computer is on pretty much 24/7) of internet browsing I have uploaded more then 500mb which is way too much for just ordinary websurfing. Either there is some spyware/adware actively uploading some crap but scans have come back negative.. and I have no clue what could be so damn active. It's constantly downloading and uploading with a speed of ~3 and ~10kb/s, with spikes and dips of course. anybody have any ideas? I mean, when I'm not surfing/browsing and just have a website open there should be no internet activity right? Definately not with those numbers anyway.. it's killing my bandwidth, as you might understand.. and with a limit of 40gb a month.. I can't really afford this crap

Re: network activity
I would imagine that most software firewalls would have that feature. I'm using an older Comodo Personal Firewall and it displays the applications that hold active connections and the amount of data uploaded and downloaded for each of them and previously I used Kerio Personal Firewall which could do that as well.

Re: network activity
cheers, downloading the free comodo as I type.. Curious as to what exactly is using the internet..
Edit: After installing, found that it's PMB.exe Panda Media Booster, it is the program League of Legends uses to download/install the program and their updates.

Re: network activity
after some researching I found that after installing the game, PMB will still be actively uploading the files of the game... although I can't remember ever agreeing to that after installing the game, there's not a lot that I can do now than removing the program.
I now understand why my bandwidth came to its limit so fast each month, and why I exceeded it a couple of times..

Re: network activity
I googled PMB because I didn't know what it was and someone mentioned that it is possible to configure the amount of bandwidth it uses (in case you run into trouble with your game after uninstalling it).

Re: network activity
cheers. I hope it'll be fine without the program, but we'll see. Good to know it can be configured.

Re: network activity
How do I control Pando Media Booster's options?
In your Windows XP or Vista, go to Control Panel and choose the Pando Media Booster icon to open the Options dialog box. NOTE: If you a Windows® Vista 64-bit user, you may need to first go to 'Additional Options' (example ) and choose 'View 32-bit Control Panel Items' (example ) to see the Pando Media Booster icon. In the control panel you can: Check/Uncheck the option to start Pando Media Booster with your computer Manage cache: Set cache size, view the amount of cache used or clear cache Shut down Pando Media Booster (Will remain off until you turn it on or restart the computer) Set Advanced Connection Settings (Not recommended unless you were instructed to make changes by Pando's support, or you are a network administrator trying to set up a proxy connection) Regards |

Re: network activity
I use NetLimiter when I feel paranoid. A more advanced software would be WireShark. It has a nice packet analyzer.
