MSI 9818 Showing "Unknown Devices". All drivers already installed???

Early last week I built two systems using this board and installed winXP on both systems. Hardware installation went fine and so did the OS setup. Most drivers were installed no problem on both machines with no issues for the most part. I downloaded and installed Chipset, display, audio, LAN, and Mini-PCIe WiFi card drivers which I obtained from the Intel website to make sure I had the newest set of drivers. The WiFi drivers I got from Habey. However, There are still two drivers that for the life of me I can't figure out. I have checked the MS-9818 driver page on the MSI website and that page only shows Chipset, Display, LAN, and Audio so I am at a dead-end right now in terms of driver installation for these two missing components.

As for the two LAN devices showing to be disabled, I took the screen shot when I was testing my WiFi card. The driver provided by the mod in the other thread is the same LAN driver I already had, so it did not answer my question. The mod mentioned that the 9818 motherboard is supplied directly to OEMs only, which I work for - which explains who I obtained these motherboards - but MSI has not been able to provide me any further assistance on the two missing drivers. This is why I'm here on the forums asking for help to see if anybody knows of any solution to these unknown devices.

TIA for any help received!

Quick specs show it has some type of Compact Flash socket.... JMicron JMB368..... Don't know if that has a specific driver or not.

Re: MSI 9818 Showing "Unknown Devices". All drivers already installed???

It does have a CF slot. I was not aware that it used a JMB368 controller. Perhaps it's the RAID controller that's enabled? The only other driver I have is a SATA driver with a bunch of files - no executables or anything - so when I do a manual driver install and locate the driver folder, it says that no driver is found.

I'll search the interwebz for that driver in the mean time. I have a feeling it is for the item listed as "PCI Simple Communications Controller".

Give Unknown Device Identifier - Freeware Download a whirl, scans and identifies devices, I think I used it for my board which had a PCI Simple Controller thing that turned out to be the onboard Bluetooth if I'm remembering correctly.

So I gave that a try and now I'm more confused than I was yesterday. It's saying that the unknown devices are related to the chipset. But the Chipset drivers are already installed!

You say you went to the Intel site for the latest drivers.... did you ever install the MSI chipset drivers?

Re: MSI 9818 Showing "Unknown Devices". All drivers already installed???

download the intel inf update utility (latest) from intel directly if you haven't..

then go download the intel management engine interface package from intel as well

and i would also assume you need the intel Graphics Accelerater package .... but can't tell

Either way... the MEI drivers are not part of the inf update or RST or any other package but it's own... and on windows vista/7.... Microsoft provides it as a critical windows update and automatically downloads/installs it the moment an internet connection is established.

Obviously for windows xp...... isn't going to do that and requires you to download it manually from intel themselves.

Although MSI likely lists it as a download.... but not under drivers.... quite frequently it's shown as a utility or "other".... still best to download the one from intel....

Re: MSI 9818 Showing "Unknown Devices". All drivers already installed???

Yea, I found the drivers a little earlier when I posted the question on the MSI forums. One of the mods over there wasn't very helpful and closed my initial thread. I recreated the thread (read, made a new thread), and a different mod helped me out with the info I needed.

And yes, it was the MEI and TPM drivers that were missing. I was given a link by the more helpful mod over there and it had some drivers that I did not come across on my initial search. I tried them and they worked. So yea. It's fixed now
