Open file from a network resource...
I've got a user that connects through the VPN while away from the office. I've got a batch file that maps his home directory and the network "share" drive however I ran into a problem that causing the batch file to not run correctly.
The home directory isn't disconnecting when he runs the script, it comes up stating that "There are currently files open on U: (connected to server\home\user). If you do not close the files before disconnecting from the network device, data may be lost". This is what I've got in the batch file that I've got him running manually after he connects to the VPN. There is more to it however it's got other drives and company info that I'd rather not post - and they map correctly. "net use U: /delete Net use L: /delete net use M: /delete net use O: /delete net use Q: /delete net use S: /delete net use S: \\ServerX\Share net use U: \\ServerX\users\%username%" How can I find out what file is open in order to either remap it or delete it? I've checked the Shares, Sessions, and Open Files that are in "Shared Folders" on the server and there isn't anything listed for this user. I've installed Process Explorer however I'm not seeing anything and when I run Netstat the one thing that is connecting to the server is netbios-ssn however from what I remember from the old gaming days and from what's out on the net, it's legit. There is still no specific file that is opened that Netstat is showing. Anyone have any other idea's on what or where I can check? |

Re: Open file from a network resource...
Are there any mapped folders to the U drive, for example the My Documents folder?
If I'm not mistaken, Windows will throw up that message if there is a user's folder that is mapped to a network drive.

Re: Open file from a network resource...
I checked his documents folder and that's mapped to the normal location along with everything else in the root of C:\. He's got a ton of subfolders in his Doc's folder though and other folders in those. Trying to go through each and every folder is going to be annoying as hell and take forever.
I would like to just re-image the thing and call it a day however I'm worried that if I copy over his profile the same thing will occur and it won't really fix anything. I guess in theory, I could just make a copy of his profile and see what that does instead. ............................. Question; since I don't know much about Power Point, if there was a PP that had video clips in it for a presentations and the clips were on the network, does PP make a local cached copy of that or does it point to the network location?
