EEK! High CPU tempature

Hi everyone I recently bought a Thermaltake Volcano 11 -Xaser Edition and a few fans for my computer. I installed it all..everything works..applied some Arctic Silver 3 thermal paste but my computer still seems to be reaching insanely high tempatures (around 60-69+ CPU wise, it's a AMD Athlon XP 1900+ on a Epox 8k3A MB, nothing is overclocked) and I was wonder what the problem might be? Too much Thermal Paste (didnt use that much to begin with) everything was installed proper...it's strange. Any help is appreciated, thanks! (BTW the fan is running at it's max default speed, 4800)

You could take it off, clean the thermal paste off everything and carefully reinstall it- Sometimes it doesn't go on quite right the first time. Make sure you use just a little tiny bit of the AS3- maybe spread it thin with a credit card or something very flat. Definitely don't run it at the temps it is at now.

a good airflow is what you also need, gotto suck the hot air out of the case.

Well I did what ya suggested BWX232 and it's still getting up around the 66 degress Hmm it gets pretty hot in my room regardless with it being at the front of the house...which dosent help...on rainy days comp usual never got hot even with my old generic heatsink...hmm maybe if I take it out and put it on top of my desk or off to the side. It's in the factory built box...which I suppose is a no no but I always heard never put it on the floor..will collect dust..which is probally true...but what do ya think take it out of the desk designed hole and put it on the inside of the desk at the bottom near my feet heh

That is with the old heatsink? Just sounds wierd. I mean, wht would it change that much from one heatsink to the next. It almost sounds like you don't have any compound on there at all- but of course you do- 70 to 80c is crazy. Are we talking about a Palamino here? My 1800xp Pal. runs at 42 idle w/ 1.84v- @1633mhz. How hot is it in the room the PC is in? Did toy try leaving the side of the case off and running a fan into it just to see what temps you would get doing that?

Do you have any case fans? I have about 9 of them- keeps things nice and cool.

And what are you running for your vcore? 1.75v?

I have 4 fans, 1 on top, 2 at the back, 1 at the front. I have quite a bit of thermal paste on there (but not to much) and the heatsink is sitting on it perfect. Vcore reads at 1.71 when starting up but I set it at 1.75.

there could be your issue .... you need to have @ lest as many cfm coming as going out (dont forget the power supply has a fan blowing air out two)... i prefur more cfm comeing in than out becouse some of the airlow is lost due to resistance of running over through componets ... i wanna keep the air moveing fast ......

ever though of a side blowhole? have a 80m blowing in cented to you viodeo card .... it'll help cool the whole system ....

your chipset cooled well? poor chipset cooling on your mobo can resut in higher cpu core temps....

dont over ue themal comupond use this method to apply it
