Use a surge protector that can also handle phone lines. Hopefully it would be fast enough to stop lightning from doing any permanent damage.

The Belkin Range of surge protectors - not cheap, but many of them include an impressive connected equipment replacement cover, and a lifetime warranty on the unit itself. |

Probably an stupid tech legend, but I was reading about people and DSL modems, Dslreports.com i think, and it said to tangle your phone cord, make the lightning work back on itself. Said it fried the cord but kept the modem. Sounds bogus to me, but it cant hurt either.

If so you might pickup a circuit checker that will check if you have the ground present. Normally it's only a couple of bucks and can be found at hardware stores. |

I am using the Belkin Gold Edition surge protector.......just had a $80 modem get fried by lightning and it took out the telephone line section of the surge protector.....Yeah......that was money well spent..
![]() And I am running a "true earth" ground on my breaker box and the phone line junction box. And my cords are always tangled up.....just always seems to work out that way
