Im pretty sure my board is a KT133, and I have Win98, which 4-in-1s should I download? I have 4.48 right now and I was gonna dl 4.49 but I've been hearing with older chipsets and windows 98 its better to use older drivers.

It says so here
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 Though the 4.49's aren't here yet. If you're already on 4.48, you may as well try 4.49, as people do seem to be screaming "performance improvement" for this version in particular. Mind you, there might not be much more top get out of a KT133 anyway. The main optimizations are for newer chipsets - Kt400/600, but there are still fixes for Win9x http://downloads.viaarena.com/driver...448release.doc 4.48 1. Fixed setup issue while S-ATA function was disabled under Win9x . 4.45 3. Fixed driver date for IDE filter driver under Win9x It would appear that if you run Win9x with later VIA chipsets, you are likely to NEED the latest, but on an older chipset, their 4.35 suggestion may be worth a try - or taking individual drivers! I recall one benchmark of different AGP driver versions, but I don't remember it being particularly conclusive. One example - http://www.amdmb.com/article-display...D=217&PageID=2 Agp 4.40 driver (preview) against 4.43 4 in 1 This is probably one of the later chipset optimizations, so you can't rely on it applying to anything else Last edited by Matth; Aug 17, 2003 at 04:17 PM. |

Ok I'll try the 4.49s when they come out and if my performance doesnt go up ill try the 4.35s. Oh and whats this about individual dirvers? Would that like be splittign the 4-in-1s up and installing different versions of each driver, or would it be third party drivers? Thanks.

There are some individual drover components on their site.
But yes, basically splitting the 4in1 if you have to, or using individual components - most usefully if yopu notice that (say) graphics (AGP) is faster in one set, but (say) the disk performance has a problem. Disk is a particular issue http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=66 Note what they say, the writeup, and then the table - it doesn't really add up? With performance enhancement "highly supported" across several operating systems, the Miniport driver looks like a good choice, but earlier, it seems to be (only use IF ....) ? I'm surprises nobody's done an "Omega" on them - though it seems the only real use of version cross-matching was to escape the odd BAD realase or test pre-release - the AGP 4.40 in the latest drivers would seem to be a bonus with later chipsets, though it's possible it goes the opposite way, or maybe just level, for older chipsets. |

Yea! Someone should make different 4-in-1s for different chipsets just like Omega!... Hmmm...
