A little more info on Sleeve Bearing vs Ball Bearing

http://www.comairrotron.com/Engineering/CoolingFan.htm

Yes BWX you can call it a bushing, but most people call it a sleeve bearing once it is used in a fan. Hence the name bearing on your fan.

cool pic's!

ball bearing fans aren't as easy to take apart but last longer my cpu fan for exaple i'm useing duel ball bearing fans and rated @ 100k hour MTBF that like 10-20 years of use(asuming you dont live in a ses pool of dust).

They can call it a bearing for marketing or whatever, but in general it is a bushing-- Ok, I'll put it like this:

if that "sleeve bearing" is a bearing, what is a bushing? And what is the difference?

Anyway- Whatever they are, they suck compared to real bearings..

Yeah Neon, I looked and my aluminum CPU can also has 2 ball bearings. I guess that's why it can run at 5000 rpm and lasts so much longer than those cheap fans..

You got that right Whats the difference? A bushing is mostly used to keep shafts lined up...or to prevent extream wear on whatever its used on. Like a snowblower wheel axle, instead of replacing the whole snowblower body you would just replace the bushings. So there kind of like a bearing really They also make plastic ones... el cheapo

Big Grin

i've done that to an old powersupply fan, and it worked fine, the thing with veggie oil is tho, that after time it gets very thick an sludgy in there(from dirty an tempurature). So what i did was use some left over mobil 1(fully synthetic baby) from my car, an BLAM haven't had problems with that psu for over 6 months now
