Could someone do me a big favor, please :)
Hey everyone! I have a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with an Epox 8k3a MB, Radeon 9700 PRO, SB Autigy, 512megs DDR PC2700 and I would like to upgrade my Motherboard (while keeping the rest of my stuff mainly due to the fact my MB only supports up to PC2700 ram and 4x AGP) There is a store near my house which offers some pretty good prices, link: http://www.a-computers.ca/ but Iam not sure what MB I should get for my AMD (it's under A-Part Source) So Id be really greatfull if one of you techies could take a look and tell me what MB is the best for $150-180. Thanks a bunch (Ive never been big on which MB is the best so any help is appreciated)

asus a7n8x or abit nf7s ver 2.0 are the most popular
but those prices seem high. You can find cheaper even after being shipped @ www.pricewatch.com also, there is a winder selection.

Hmm don't know why people keep saying Asus is the one for reliability..Abit is just as a good..especially if your not OC'ing and it's cheaper.
I have one question to ask you..what type of sound card are you currently using, and do you plan to OC? |

Abit NF7-S or non-S if you aren't going to use the extra features..
Just make sure you get a VERSION 2 (ultra 400)- that's what you want. Believe me these are sweet motherboards. I'm sure an Asus would be good too- but the NF7's are awesome.

I have a Soundblaster Autigy. I dont plan to use Onboard sound, etc... I got all that I just need a newer MB that supports higher ram, 8x AGP, etc.. (from that site I provided)

Well... If you want S-ATA and firewire (both SB1394 and IEEE1394) then you want to go for the Abit NF7-S 2.0 - If you are not interested in those features - then go for the NF7 (the only two boards to buy!!!)

To verios, I would say get over your fears about purchasing online, and go buy your motherboard from NewEgg.com - that is the best place to deal with with excellent customer service. And you won't have to spend 180 dollars for a motherboard! You will get your Abit NF7-S for around 100 dollars- maybe a little more, I haven't checked priced for a while since I already got mine. **edit** just saw your above post, but still feel the same- Newegg is also very good about returns and RMA's - and much better about selection and price. They will always work to make you happy there.

Hi Verios
I have the ASUS board that was mentioned by NEON and it's a great mobo. For O/C I would reccomend the ABIT since most serious O/C are done using that board. The reason I bought my ASUS was the price and the features that came with it. Onboard sound works very well - Dolby 5.1 and 2Gigabite onboard NICS is sweet too. Dont be afraid with purchasing online - I use VISA and they offer insurance - if the goods never arrive then they investigate and the loss is theres. I always buy online. Talk with your bank and see what they reccomend
