Thinking about getting rid of my Compaq case/mobo
How does this look, It's supercheap And I could take everything out of my compaq and move it over. Drives/ XP 3000+/ Memory .
So tell me is it worth it for $149.00, Think that would give me anymore performance over my Compaq? http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3837187

I'm going to say...NO. You're already using the best chipset for your processor.

Thanks Nec, I looked up a few reviews for that board and they said that it's not for hardcore gaming. so back to the drawing board.

You could get ALLOT more speed and performance out of an NF7 and - put it in a custom case, get a nice shiny new PSU and you'll be set. You can do just a mild OC (not hurting a thing or risking hardware in any way) and get better performance..
Unless I'm mistaken, you can't OC your PC at all right now can you?

Only thing I can do is OC my video card, HP Has these Compaq'a locked up tight as a drumBuit here's what I'm thinking about doing next.. This case http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3598944 With this mobo http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3699525 Then I want to rip out everything from my compaq. Like DVD-R/CD-RW, CD Rom, Hard Drive, 512 MB 2700 DDR, floppy drive, Video card, Oh yeah and my XP 3000+ And stick it all in the new mobo. That should work for now right? I know that mobo will take faster Ram but to start off with my 2700 will work OK wont it? With that mobo and my processor and ram I should get a little better performance than from my compaq right?

Geat mobo- jst don't get that case- you want to get a case w/o a power supply and buy your own PSU--- OR buy a case that has a name brand PSU in it--
You want a 450watt PSU- if not more. I made that mistake with my case a couple years ago-- I wiush I had someone to tell me not to get the case /w built in PSU then,, I wouldn't have to buy a new PSU now.. Trust me- you want to hand pick your PSU- put it in any case you like.. You will be happier with it.

I'm sure that 400 watter is just as good (probably better) than the generic thing in most cases that come w/ one.. You will have allot faster system with that NF7 and your CPU- it's gonna fly man. Just think, you will be able to play w/ voltage/ multiplier/ fsb speed/ mem timings- That CPU and FSB is capable of so much more than compaq will "let" you run it at..

Your starting to scare me now I'm a total n00b when it comes to all of that stuff I've always owned OEM PC's But I'm ready to try and build my own. Quote:
And about 5800 in 3Dmark 2003. But I see people with the same (and a lot of times less) processer and and video card. Get a much higher scores. The onlything that has been holding me back is the fack that "Yes it only gets XXXX in 3Dmark XXXX But You cant play a bench mark And my PC runs any game so far I have thrown at it. With no problems! At high screen rez and details. So thats where I'm at, On one hand I want to build my own so I can get more performance, But on the other hand I keep thinking "If it aint broke, Dont fix it"

Haven't you ever thought about flashing your bios with the retail version for your motherboard?

Mine is an "LA" and the retail is a "VM" or "MV" dont remember. But like BWX232 say's I'd be afrad of wreaking it and then be setting here with no web/games/DH Untill I got something done to it. Hell I even went so far as to download the ASUS drivers for the retail version awhile back. But I chickened out ![]() Believe me I wish I had a fursure answer on if it would work or not. I'd would do it

Tell you what Nec I'm at work right now but when I get home later I'll email you the PDF files to both of these mobo's mine and the retail. See what you think.
And no if it doecnt work I will not blame anyone but myself. I'm an adult and no makes me do anything. But if you think it would work ok I'd love to hear it.
