Ok, i got 2 of these boards... not bad boards...not amazing or anything.....

There is a switch on these boards to force only 100mhz FSB... or auto detect from 133-200fsb....

The list of supported cpu is.... breif... athlon/ahtlon xp....duron...

Here's my question, i got a 950mhz duron in this mobo.... and the sucker won't boot...... Hardrive/cd-rom won't even do a thing (doesn't start)... the PSU i know is fine... everything else...fine.... only thing i can't say for sure is the mobo....ram/video..

If it were ram, it would beep wouldn't it?

if it were video... it would beep....

if it were cpu... would it?

Or maybe the cpu isn't supported?

But what i don't get... is that the HD/cdrom don't even flash or nothing on power up... the RAM LED pops on (which says it detects and working)... my power and HD led come and stay on.... fans spin.... just nothing...dead...

Something tells me that something is terribly wrong with the mobo as the hd and whatnot should at least start..... if nothing else.... it's like... well don't know.... i have tried clearing cmos...... i tried different cables.... tried running nothing but a cpu/ram in the board and hitting power... as it should give me a beep that it doesn't detect a video card at all..... could maybe the bios itself is currupt.. (no updates or anything on it)

With The DURON, force 100 FSB may be needed if it's failing to detect

Is the 950 a Spitfire or a Morgan - nominally, Morgans were 1 GHz and above, but I've heard of them beiing seen at lower speeds.

If it says Duron, Athlon and Athlon XP, then it OUGHT to be able to run a Morgan anyway as that's effectively a Duron-XP.

Any make (or at least chipset).

Any idea of history - could it have been mis-flashed or CIH-virused?

yes...checked it all out... the board is BRAND new...... what i was worried about it maybe the cpu dieing.... but i thought the board would beep if that was the case...... well, my last conclusion being a dead mobo...... I got up the urge to do a quick swap...... didn't even bother taking the mobo out.... just grab the old one that i knew would at least do something.....

this is what i did:

I took that foam stuff that the motherboards are laying on sometimes in the retail boxes......

laid it partially on the case and put the old mobo on it.... took the cpu out of the new... slapped it in the old.. (a quick thermal paste addition)...... stuck a little bit of ram in the sucker.... and plugged in the leds and whatnot... no video...no nothing else... (as it has onboard audio... sound)...

flip the switch... and nothing..... dead... at this point i'm like WTF?...

so i plugged in more things like the hardrive and whatnot..... just the power...no ide cables.... flipped the switch.... and the hardrives came on..... but i wasn't getting anything......

after looking at it.... just for the hell of it... i flip the switch and boom.... started beeping and loading.... and again.... WTF?

plug the rest in...all seemed pretty damn good..

so i upluged everything... jammed the cpu back into the new mobo...plugged everything in... and hit the button.... BOOM it was alive....

i just don't get it .....

A well... it's all good now.. i've been running the Memory suite on it. (dos based).... seems solid.....

Some of the options in the gigabyte menu just confuse me a little though...

Ha, ha I'm not surprised.

It's just how electronics is sometimes. I've been working on TS'ing something...can't figure it out...walk away to get something to drink and come back and it's working perfectly.
