Urgent HELP need! router firmware flash gone bad
Hi guys.
I got a new router+ADSL modem and during Firmware update I had a power outage. after power came back I tried to load the GUI interface with no success. and after looking into the user manual and doing steps they said to determin the status of the router I found that it had loaded a defult emergency program from a rom and is now running in its most basic form. the manual explains how to recover from this in reload the new or old firmware via an ftp consol that the basic program provides. the steps thay say needed to be done are as follow: ftp 192.168.1.1 user: password: and then. ha bi lcd c:\ put app2.bin app2 at this point the new file should be uploaded to the router and instead what I get is the following ERROR. 553 app2:Unknown destination file or in ASCII mode can any one tell me what is wrong or how to solve the problem? the make and modle are as follow: B-FOCuS 270pr by Inovia for ecitelecom i cannot go to the dealer since the flashing process revoked my warenty :-( HELP!!!!!!!!

...sounds like an FTP issue
Hello me972,
I am not familiar with the procedure you describe, but the error message looks familiar. It is often the case that when connecting to an FTP server and initiating a file transfer, one forgets to set the mode to "binary". To do this (in this case, using Microsoft's FTP client that is provided with Windows installations), you should type in the command "binary" before typing in that last "put" command. The two methods are ASCII and binary. When a file is transferred as an ASCII file, all of the content is interpreted as regular characters (even content which has nothing to do with regular characters, such as machine code found in executable files). This can mean that the content will be changed. When a file is transferred as a binary file, no changes are made whatsoever. Good Luck. Calculator. |
