Whats better? memory question
memory question... Whats better, from a performance stand point?
2x512MB or 1 stick of 1GB 3x512MB or 2 sticks of 1GB Becouse latences tend to add up don't they? So should a stick of 1 GB Cas3 3,3,10 wouldn't it be faster then say two sticks of Cas 2 2,2,5 (2x Cas 2 2,2,5 = cas 4 4,4,10) for the same reson 1 512 is faster then two fast 256's But then you add duel channel into the mix and alot of clam that adds only like 1% most of the time... any one clear on this?

well lets see....... alot of 512mb sticks are now running 2 cas no problemo.... i've seen a few 1024 sticks that are barely hitting 2.5 cas ATM...
However, 2 sticks of 1024 vs 3 sticks of 512 would be IMO better

I'd go with 2x512 instead of 1 stick.. Setting up 2 512mb sticks in dual-channel will double your bandwidth from 3.2g/s to 6.4gb/s (PC-3200) which results into more speeeeeeed!

Neon's on an AthlonXP, so he won't get double the bandwidth, more like 2%
I think 2 sticks is better than three, but " two sticks of Cas 2 2,2,5 (2x Cas 2 2,2,5 = cas 4 4,4,10)" is not true. it would still be 2-2-2-5.

then why is 1x 512 faster then 2x 256's? (with out duel channel) the latencies "seem" aditive with out duel channel

it might be some sort of different delay involved, but the actual timings are the same.
I don't really know about the details of that

depends on the controller itself...... the Nforce 2 ultras i see in alot of benchmarks were adding in more sticks appears to "slow" it down a bit... which is to be expected but.. NOT to much....
i haven't seen this problem on the Via boards though.....
