What is a PCIx1 Slot??

Hello, I am thinking about buying a nw CPU/motherboard. I am still undecided if i want to get an AGP or PCIe board. Anyways I saw this board

and I noticed it had the PCIx16 (which i think is PCIe) and it has the standard PCI slots, but it also had 2 slots which were labeled PCIx1. They look like they are about 1/4 the size of the standard PCI slot. Anybody know what those are for?

P.S> Is it possible for a motherboard to have both a PCIe slot and AGP slot?

PCI x1 is just another kind of PCIe slot. it's meant for cards with lower bandwidth needs, such as modems, sound cards, etc. PCIe is flexible like that, with 1x, x2, x4, x8, x16 and I think even x32 slots being possible to implement. An x16 slot has 16 "lanes" that can be used for data transfer, and x1 has only one lane. Each lane allows 250MB/s bandwidth in each direction, if I remember correctly.

Motherboards with both PCIe and AGP are possible, it depends on the chipset makers to make it heppen. So far, I don't know of any boards out with such a chipset yet.

wow thanks for the response. I was hoping to get just get a motherboard, processor, PSU, and RAM and use my 9700 pro for a while along w/ my HD and other parts, but it seems like its just going to be better to wait a while longer and go w/ a PCIe board w/ a newer card.

right now theres only boards with PCIe and "AGPe" which basically what they did is take two PCI slots and slap them togeather to be like an AGP slot. its got 66mhz but its still fsking slower than AGP 8X. its mainly there to tide you over until you can get a PCIe card.
