asus p4s8x issues?!?!?!?

I have a p4 2.53 in an asus p4s8x mobo..... ati 9700 pro vid card.... mobo bios ver 1005.001....radeon 6193 driver.......sis agp 1.12 driver..... and in my ati control panel, smartgart, it states that my agp bus is running at 2x....... is this normal ??? shouldnt i be running at 8x agp????? or does it just report at 2x???? can anyone help me please.......

yeah. both your video card and motherboard are crap.

actually, the 9700 doesn't work at 8x, and that particular asus motherboard doesn't work very well with ANY hardware.

Well to begin with your motherboard, update your bios, asus has fixed alot of issues with the latest bios upgrades, but there is still alot of problems with this board :/

Make sure your radeon 9700 is a 1.3 rev, or else you might ran into some problems, when trying to run with 8x AGP.

the smargart saying 2x, is a bug in the 6193 drivers, it is running with 8x AGP, if you install powerstrip, ypu will see this.

For example, my Hercules 8500 has AGP in Smartgart Off, and WCPUID sasy 4x.

I have the same config and it runs very well.
First of all switch back to the Bios version 1.03a, and be sure to cloeck your ram at 133mhz. This still gives better results then the 1.05.001 at 166mhz (Asus sacrificed performance for stability starting from 1.04). To avoid reboots make sure to up your vcore setting to 1.575v.
For the radeon make sure you use the latest leaked drivers (there in the forum here somewhere). should be version 7.7 something. In smartgart you will see that 8x is definitely supported and working. Thing is, it will only be an advantage starting from Directx 9.0.
Well, this worked for me... Running UT2003 in highest possible res... and it looks astonishing!

One of my recently damaged motherboards was one of this Asus P4B series. I don't recommend Asus to anyone. Sorry if there's an Asus employee surfing the site, but Abit, for example, is much more reliable.

i was thinking of getting the p4s8x but changed to p4pe for the better feature set. Now i'm double glad after reading this.
