Cpu Making Strange Noise! Help!
I am running a P4 2.0 ghz celeron processor OC to 2.3 for over a year/ no problems. whenever i scroll down a web page or play a game(MOHPA-HALFLIFE 2), the cpu makes a very odd noise, its definately coming from the cpu or something very near to it, because when i stick my ear inside the case thats where it is coming from. the noise sounds like ringing, tinging high pitch sound. I checked my bios, and everything is still set to defaults. Has anyone else had this problem? This sound came about when I put a new ati 9700 pro in, In thinking it was from the CPU fan, I replace the CPU fan with a new thermaltake fan but the sound is still come around when playing or scroll down web pages. I think maybe my little P4 chip is getting fried over the year in OC or maybe power supply issuse? Any suggestion
350 watt power supply msi 845e mobo 9700 pro sound blaster card 768 ram 52 x burner 3 1/2 floppy 40 g HD 56 k modem 2 case fans 2 front usb 4 back pci usb adpt. |

cpu's don't make any noise at all.look to see if you're gpu & cpu is clogged with dust,if so give these a good blow out with compressed air.
if this is no difference it may be more likely going to be the cpu/gpu fan failing.may be time to replace the fan.psu could also be making a little difference also. |

you may be right about the psu, adding a 9700 pro to your rig could be stressing it. What make and model is it and whats the rated voltage on the rails?

A PSU can sometimes give off a faint hissing or high pitched beeping noise when loaded closer to its limit, from component vibration. It wouldn't necessarily mean that there is any danger involved, but getting a better PSU would solve it if that is what is occurring.

Could be a PSU thing also, though. |

[QUOTE=hohum]That's probably the cause then. I remember Nvidia cards (FX5900 I think?) had a problem whereby the cards would emit a clicking noise when scrolling webpages, caused by the capacitors. Turning off smooth scrolling in IE options would stop it occuring.
QUOTE] Thats more likely to be it. my 9700Pro did it as did my 9800Pro and my newish x800pro does it as well. Nothing to worry about |

have you tried to disable/remove your POST speaker? might be coming out of that as well.

My 9800 Pro does the same thing.. it only happens on certain things though.. like when I mouse over my Object Dock and it expands it makes a very very low noise.. at least its extremely unnoticeable

get some high RPM fans like tornados....that should take care of your buzzy, whiney, hissy noise coming from your system
