Which modem

As a newbie to the world of 64bit I have all but given up on trying to get my Creative modem blaster DI5732 to work in XP64 because of a lack of a proper driver. Instead I would like advice on a suitable replacement modem to buy. Broadband not available here yet so I am stuck with 56k. I don't know of any modems supported yet in XP64 but which sort is most likely to get me going? From what I have read so far, external serial seems a good choice. I have a dual boot system but need to be online 24/7. Anyone out there got a 56k modem to work in XP64? I would love to know details. Help anyone?
