I'm afraid that these Wíndows updaters can never become as safe as the pure DOS ones.

When you get your PC up and running again post back into that Abit forum thanking the guy... and I mean that sarcastically btw.

Question for you: did the Abit tech get you to try resetting the CMOS (page 2-7 in your manual)? Also, was there any POST code on the led located on your mobo, and if so, what was it? Checkout pages G1-5 in your manual for the corrisponding code. Although it sounds like a bad bios flash it's possible that it might be another issue with a setting or device.. just incase, check this out. Lastly, try following the instructions on page H-1. This details about getting into a 'safe-mode' setup. Essentially the bios will restart with the default 'clocked' settings just incase the timings are set wrong.

Last thing: I don't see it listed in the manual, but does your PC, even in this bad bios state, does it try to boot off the floppy at all? If so, you might be able to reflash the bios. Some boards have this feature just incase of a bad flashing.

Other than that, the only thing left would be to get a new bios chip. Weird that Abit didn't offer you to buy a new one from them. Manufacturers usually will sell you a new one for $10 or so, and will send it out with a removal tool. However, your idea about taking it to a local shop is proably the smarter deal.. Just don't let them fool you into thinking your board is toast, and get you to buy a new one. It's really just a matter of replacing the bios.

abit tech asked whaqt code was showing in led display.it was od-41-ff .in that order.which meant corropt bios.it was trying to use floppy.got pc back today with new bios.but in 1.7 as 1.9 is giving people problems still.contact abit in uk.they wouldn't take credit card .only cheque or money order, asked why, didn't know why.told me it would take weeks.first order new bios chip.then you send money.when they recieve money, send bios chip.told them would be faster fly over and get it.only abit site l could see that sell bios chip by c-card is in usa.some usa sites are funny about taking european c-cards.the guy who told me what to do is in abit mobo 939 section.look in thread setup by me called flashmenu on av8,then you see him.
