Nf7-S hand me down woes
Like the title says. Worked fine in my machine. The machine boots then I get the klaxon over the PC speaker after a few moments. I can usually just see the BIOS screen.
Only two things I can guess are wrong. One: That the 250W PS is not enough. Which is my first guess. Though I cant even get into BIOS with no devices hooked up. Two: That the processor is fucked. I'm going to rip out my 450W out of this machine and try it out. If it is PS any reccomendations for minimum specfications? Like do I just need 300+? |

250 is kinda light these days. Your needs will depend on how may drives your connecting amount of ram lights ect. I have an Aspire 520w powering my current rig and if your on a budget it only cost me 50$ and has been very dependable so far.
Having said that your problem sounds more like the cpu overheat protections kicking in. I had a similar problem when I first got my Abit NF7-s. I used an aftermarket cooler a slk 900u with a Thermaltake fan. First thing I'd check is to make sure that you've got the yellow sensor wire attached to the proper pin on the motherboards cpu fan header. I believe it was the 3rd pin(far right) of the 3 pin connector, check the manual to be sure. If it's correct then I'd take off the heatsink and clean and re-apply thermal paste and reseat the heatsink. I mention checking the wire first since I had redone the heatsink 3 times before I figured out it was the sensor the whole time might save you some time. Also does your current psu have the 4 pin 12v connector for the motherboard and is it connected? I hope this helps you get things sorted out!

Yeah, it was the PS I went out and bought a cheap 350W and it works. Thanks.
